Nashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds – the Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers – have announced their tentative Opening Day 28-man roster, a group highlighted by three of the organization’s top 10 prospects, 15 returning players from the 2013 squad, and 11 members of Milwaukee’s 40-man roster.
Nashville will have to make three roster moves by Thursday’s opener to get to the 25-man active limit.

Hellweg has turned in an outstanding season during his first year at the Triple-A level. The fireballer is 11-5 with a 3.16 ERA (42er/119.2ip) in 22 starts for the Sounds this season.
The 24-year-old ranks 2nd in the PCL in ERA and is tied for 2nd in wins, while leading the circuit in winning percentage (.688) and opponents average (.226).
Hellweg Enjoyed Solid First Year At Triple-A Level

Nashville held to one run for third consecutive contest
Nashville, TN – Alberto Bastardo tossed a quality start as the Albuquerque Isotopes dropped the Nashville Sounds, 4-1, in front of a season-high 9,116 fans on Friday Night at Greer Stadium.
The Sounds (8-13) have now lost their last five consecutive contests, and have scored just one run in the last three games. The first three hitters in the Nashville lineup went a combined 0-for-10 on the night.
Bastardo (2-0) earned the win for Albuquerque, allowing one run on five hits with five strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings.
Nashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds dropped their fourth straight game on Thursday evening at Greer Stadium, losing 5-1 to the Albuquerque Isotopes in the opener of a four-game series.
Isotopes pitchers held the Sounds to four hits in the contest and Nashville (8-12) went 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position on the evening.
Albuquerque third baseman Corey Smith (2-for-3) gave the visitors a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning with a two-out solo home run to center off Sounds starter Amaury Rivas that cleared the wall just to the left of the 24-foot high batter’s eye. The blast was the infielder’s third of the year.
Greinke Works 2 2/3 Innings In Rehab Start For Nashville
Nashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds lost an Easter Sunday matinee to the division-rival Omaha Storm Chasers, falling 7-3 at Greer Stadium.
Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Zack Greinke, currently on a rehabilitation assignment while recovering from a cracked left rib, made his first start for the Sounds after one rehab outing at Advanced-A Brevard County last Tuesday.
Greinke – who took a no-decision for Nashville – allowed two runs on three hits over 2 2/3 innings, throwing 54 pitches (32 strikes). He walked one batter and struck out two. He is expected to make another rehab start with the Sounds on Friday evening against Albuquerque at Greer Stadium, a 7:05pm contest.
Nashville, TN – Vin Mazzaro tossed a quality start while the division-rival Omaha Storm Chasers dropped the Nashville Sounds, 9-0, on Saturday night in front of 8,251 fans at Greer Stadium.
Mazzaro (1-0) gave up just five hits while tossing seven scoreless innings with five strikeouts in the win. Former Sound Lorenzo Cain went 3-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored in his first game returning to Greer Stadium for the visiting Storm Chasers.
2009 American League Cy Young Winner To Start Easter Sunday’s 2:05pm Matinee
Nashville, TN – Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Zack Greinke will join the Nashville Sounds and start Easter Sunday’s 2:05pm contest against the division-rival Omaha Storm Chasers at Greer Stadium as part of a rehabilitation assignment.
Greinke, who is currently on the Brewers disabled list recovering from a broken rib suffered in February, is expected to throw up to 50 pitches in his second rehab start.
Greinke recently tossed three shutout innings for Advanced-A Brevard County on Tuesday night in his first rehab start. He retired nine of the 10 batters he faced, struck out four of them and threw 35 pitches. Greinke threw 11 of his 13 pitches for strikes in the first inning, five of six pitches for strikes in a quick second inning, and 11 of 16 pitches for strikes in the third, when he finally allowed a hit. «Read the rest of this article»
