Austin Peay Governors Baseball signs Kansas City-area prospect Logan Gray

APSU Sports: Austin Peay Baseball

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team continues its busy early signing period by adding Logan Gray, of Leawood, Kansas, via a national letter of intent, Friday.

Gray, a 6-1, 180-pound infielder, batted .395 with six triples and 22 RBI during his junior year as a shortstop and middle reliever at Rockhurst High School, which reached the 2012 Missouri Class 4A state quarterfinals.

He has participated the past two summers with the Kansas City Royals Elite Scout Team and has played with the Building Champions Baseball Academy.

“With Reed (Harper) graduating after this year it has been a priority to bring in an athletic player we believe can make the transition from playing shortstop in high school to Division I,” said Governors head coach Gary McClure. “We believe Logan has the size, athletic ability, and tools, to do that.

“Logan is a very instinctive baseball player who has good feet, good foot speed and first-step quickness. He also has the hands and the arm strength it takes to be a very good defender. Offensively he has the ability to be a good hitter with the ability to hit somewhere at the top of our lineup because of his speed and knowledge of the strike zone.”
