New York City, NY – Austin Peay State University (APSU) baseball team’s Parker Phillips and pitcher Greg Leban saw their names on the draft board during Day 3 of the 2019 Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft, which concluded Wednesday, May 5th.
Clarksville, TN – On Saturday afternoon, May 18th, the Austin Peay State University baseball team was unable to overcome an early home run barrage from Jacksonville State and dropped its regular-season finale, 13-8 on Joe Maynard Field at Raymond C. Hand Park.
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball program has had a history over the years of getting players selected in the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft and this year was no exception with APSU Governors starting pitcher Michael Costanzo being selected by the Tampa Bay Rays.
Costanzo, a native of Chicago, was selected in the 31st round by the Rays – the 930th overall pick in the draft– while also being a part of a record 16 overall players from the Ohio Valley Conference to be chosen in this year’s draft.

Clarksville, TN – The final game of the Austin Peay State University’s baseball team three-game Ohio Valley Conference series against Eastern Kentucky will be scheduled to start at 1:00pm, Sunday as rain saturated the Clarksville area Saturday morning with more rain in the forecast.
The Stephen Huff Lung Cancer Awareness day scheduled for Saturday will now be held Saturday, April 28th as part of the series with UT Martin.

Nashville, TN – Designated hitter Brett Newberg hit three home runs and Austin Peay State University’s baseball team launched five homers in a 10-5 Ohio Valley Conference series-opening win against Belmont, Friday, at E.S. Rose Park.
Newberg’s three home runs came in his first three at-bats and each proved pivotal. His first to right center in the second gave the Govs their first run of the contest.
Clarksville, TN – When recent Austin Peay State University graduate baseball player Alex Robles was selected in the 30th round of the 2017 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft on June 14th he joined an outstanding list of former APSU baseball players that have started their aspiring journeys to the big leagues with their names being called in the draft.
Drafted with the 886th overall pick, as a right-handed pitcher by the Minnesota Twins, Robles — who is from Tucson, AZ – became the 41st Governor to be drafted, since Tim Burns was drafted in 1972 by the California Angels.

Martin, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball pitcher Alex Robles hit for the cycle and right fielder Chase Hamilton‘s three-run home run provided the game securing runs as the Governors bounced back to win a 8-5 contest against UT Martin in the second half of a doubleheader at Skyhawk Field.
Austin Peay (20-21, 11-12 OVC) entered the seventh inning holding a 5-4 lead and starting pitcher Alex Robles led off the frame with a triple that eluded the right fielder’s glove.

Clarksville, TN – Making the transition from college to professional baseball happens quickly, just ask former Austin Peay State University (APSU) baseball players Ridge Smith, Logan Gray, Garrett Copeland and Jared Carkuff, who in a little less than 40 days ago were playing college baseball and now are settling into their pro careers.
Ridge Smith, a catcher, was drafted in the 12th round of the MLB Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays organization and was assigned to the Bluefield (WV) Blue Jays of the Rookie Appalachian League.
Clarksville, TN – This past week in New York City, Major League Baseball held its annual amateur draft with four Austin Peay State University (APSU) baseball players having their names called, bring the all-time total to 40 players selected in the draft from APSU since the first Gov was drafted in 1972.
Juniors Ridge Smith (catcher), Logan Gray (third base), Garrett Copeland (second base) and senior pitcher Jared Carkuff were chosen in the 12th, 13th, 30th and 35th rounds, respectively, marking the second time Austin Peay had has as many as four players drafted at one time – and trailing only the 2013 MLB draft were the Govs had five players picked.
