James E. Kendrick, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program Coordinator in Clarksville has announced the January 31 opening of that program. VITA is a volunteer based, free tax preparation service for lower income families.
In addition to the free tax preparation service, VITA emphasizes the importance of asset building and finance management to its clients. They are also launching an initiative to urge more families to file for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) with the hope that those families will use this money to build more assets.
On January 31st, 2008, VITA will be participating in the National EITC Awareness Day, which will also act as the Kickoff for our VITA program for 2008. The Kickoff will introduce the VITA program to members of the community, link community members to asset building and finance management resources, and demonstrate some of the actual services we will provide through the VITA program.
