APSU Men’s Golf
Glencoe, AL – Austin Peay State University men’s golf team was unable to hold its second-round lead, falling to a fourth-place finish at the Grub Mart Intercollegiate, played at Silver Lakes Golf Club, Tuesday.
Shortly after playing the tournament’s best round – a 280 – the Govs followed with a tournament-high 310 in the final round. Sophomore Dustin Korte, who was the clubhouse leader to start the final round, finished fourth – one stroke out of a three-way tie for medalist – with a three-round 214.

While Korte wasn’t able to maintain his early pace, he was not the only Govs golfer to fall off in the final round. After posting three under-par second rounds, Austin Peay’s best final-round score was freshman Marco Iten’s two-over 73. Korte was behind him with a his worst spring round, a 78.
From there, it was freshman Anthony Bradley – who shot 71-71 to open the tournament – with a 79 which happened to be two shots worst than his career-high round. Juniors Logan Loftus and Drew Miller finished at 80 and 83, respectively.
“We just didn’t come to play today,” said Kayden. “Hopefully we can learn from this. The only positive is that we were in a position to win and I hope that’s part of the learning process. We have one of our best rounds of the year and worst rounds, back to back. Everybody struggled as the team.”
Despite the final-round blow up, Austin Peay still managed to put two golfers in the top-10 for the first time this season. Korte finished fourth (71-65-78=214), while Iten came in seventh (74-69-73=216). The drop off from there left Bradley in 24th (71-71-79=221), Loftus in 59th (73-78-80=231) and Miller in 66th (73-75-83=233).
Austin Peay returns to action, next Monday, at Arkansas State’s ASU Red Wolf Classic.
