37 APSU student-athletes conferred degrees Friday

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – A record 1,075 graduate were awarded degree at Austin Peay State University’s 83rd Spring Commencement and 37 were student-athletes.

They were part of graduation ceremonies in the Dunn Center as both a morning and afternoon commencements were held Friday.

The seniors athletes were part of a graduating class that saw record numbers earn Athletics Directors Honor Roll recognition and a department grade-point average that approach 3.0 annually.

Austin Peay Governors Golf starts with with Dual Match against Northern Illinois

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s golf team opens its spring tournament season with a dual match, Friday, against Northern Illinois at The Links at Novadell.

Each team will field seven golfers with the five low scores counting toward the team total. Weather permitting, the two teams are scheduled to tee it up at 1:00pm.

Austin Peay State University GovernorsHopkinsville, KY – Austin Peay State University men’s golf team caps its fall schedule with the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate, Monday and Tuesday, a two-day 54-hole event played at the Links at Novadell.

The tournament consist of 36 holes, Monday, followed by a final-round, Tuesday.

Big Blue begins Golf Govs fall season

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s golf team begins its fall season with the 2011 UK Bluegrass Fall Invitational, Saturday, hosted by the University of Kentucky, in Lexington, KY.              

The two-day, 54-hole event takes place at the University Club of Kentucky’s Big Blue Course – a par-71, 6,988-yard Arthur Hills-designed championship course. Play begins at 8:30am, Saturday, with the first two rounds in continuous play, followed by a final-round action, 8:00am, Sunday.

Govs finish first round, ASU Red Wolf Classic suspended due to weather and darkness

Austin Peay State University GovernorsJonesboro, AR – Austin Peay men’s golf team shot an opening-round 307 to sit in 18th at the ASU Red Wolf Intercollegiate, hosted by Arkansas State, Monday at RidgePoint Country Club.

Heavy storms pounded the area off and on for much of the day forcing the 54-hole tournament to be shortened to 36-hole format. The event concludes with an 18-hole final round, beginning at 8:30am, Tuesday.

Golf Govs hope to regain momentum at Arkansas State event

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Coming off its season’s best finish, Austin Peay State University men’s golf team returns to action at Arkansas State’s ASU Red Wolf Classic, played at RidgePointe Country Club, beginning with an 8:00am, Monday, shotgun start.

After battling through some early struggles, the Govs pulled off a fourth-place finish at the Grub Mart Intercollegiate, their last time out. That finish, however, was a product of a third-round collapse in which Austin Peay shot the tournament’s worst round – coming after firing the tournament’s best round, 18 holes earlier.

Golf Govs fall to fourth at Grub Mart Intercollegiate

Austin Peay State University GovernorsGlencoe, AL – Austin Peay State University men’s golf team was unable to hold its second-round lead, falling to a fourth-place finish at the Grub Mart Intercollegiate, played at Silver Lakes Golf Club, Tuesday.

Shortly after playing the tournament’s best round – a 280 – the Govs followed with a tournament-high 310 in the final round. Sophomore Dustin Korte, who was the clubhouse leader to start the final round, finished fourth – one stroke out of a three-way tie for medalist – with a three-round 214.

Korte and Golf Govs lead Grub Mart Intercollegiate after 36 holes

Austin Peay State University GovernorsGlencoe, AL – Sophomore Dustin Korte’s record-setting day has Austin Peay State University men’s golf team in first place with a two-shot lead after the first two rounds of the Grub Mart Intercollegiate, Monday.

Korte’s second-round 65 tied the tournament’s 18-hole mark while his two-round 136 is the Grub Mart’s 36-hole record. The sophomore takes a three-shot lead into Tuesday’s final round, but more importantly has the Govs sitting atop the leaderboard for the first time in a while.

Golf Govs ready for Grub Mart Intercollegiate

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s golf team returns to action at the JSU Grub Mart Intercollegiate, beginning with a  Sunday practice round, followed by 36 holes on Monday and a Tuesday final round.

Played a Silver Lakes Golf Course, a 7,040 yardage and par 72 venue, the Grub Mart Intercollegiate is an event the Govs have seen success. In fact, the 2009 OVC Champion Govs team won the rain-shortened tournament with a four-under par 572. Joining the Govs will be host Jacksonville State, Morehead State, Eastern Kentucky, UT Martin, Tennessee Tech, Samford, Belmont, Columbus State and Georgia Tech.
