OVC Men’s Golf Tournament shortened to 36 holes

APSU Men’s Golf

Austin Peay State University GovernorsDickson, TN – The Ohio Valley Conference Men’s Golf Tournament final round was canceled, early Wednesday morning, due to inclement weather. Austin Peay State University men’s golf team finished fifth, with a two-round 585.

Jacksonville State ran away with the tournament title, shooting a 15-under par 561. UT Martin was 18 strokes back at 579, while Murray State (580), Eastern Kentucky (582) and the Govs made up the top five. Tennessee Tech (591), Tennessee State (594), Eastern Illinois (596) and Morehead State (599) rounded out the field.

There was a three-way tie for medalist – Johan Eriksson, of EKU; along with Matthew Wallace and Andres Schonbaum, of JSU. Eriksson earns an individual bid to the NCAA Golf Tournament, while Wallace and Schonbaum will be a part of JSU’s team bid.

Austin Peay’s efforts were led by junior Drew Miller and freshman Anthony Bradley, both finishing t-11th at 144. Miller shot 74-70, while Bradley put up 69-75. It was the first time since 2007 the Govs failed to have a player named all-tournament.

The Govs second-round 294 sunk their hopes of a comeback as Miller and sophomore Dustin Korte were the only players to finish under par. Korte’s second-round 70 wasn’t good enough to offset an opening-round 76, finishing him 17th with a two-round 147. Freshman Marco Iten came in 28th after a lackluster second-round 79 landed him with a 36-hole 151. Senior Luke Sherrod finished 42nd in his career finale with a two-round 156.
