Red Knight Distribution receives Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certification

Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certification ProgramMontgomery County, TN – Red Knight Distribution, the operations center for Furniture Connection and Furniture 123 in Clarksville, is the latest company to become Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certified.

Prior to their recent green ribbon cutting, Red Knight Team Member Ashleigh Sympson explained that owner David Berggren saw the benefits in constructing an energy efficient building and said the building was made to be efficient.

“We recycle all of our metals and cardboard. We purchased our own bailer because almost everything comes in boxes. Our paper is FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) Certified and we recycle all of our toner,” explained Ashleigh.

Owner David Berggren added, “The money we get from the cardboard makes our dumpster bill a wash and we actually end up with more. Lights are all energy efficient with motion sensors. One of the things you don’t see is pollution and waste in the warehouse section because of the electric equipment and because it is streamlined.”

After cutting the ribbon, Montgomery County Mayor Carolyn Bowers asked them to share some of the other things they did to earn the certification.

Berggren explained, “We are using an electronic dispatch tracking system and last month we saved $500.00 in gas. We hope to save thousands on gas throughout the year. The computer now determines the route and the furniture is packed accordingly. Customers will eventually be able to track where their furniture is in route. Cutting down routing times saves gas, time, money and wear and tear on the vehicles.”

Sympson shared one recent example of a 90 minute saving in one day.

“We also have a standing relationship with another store that takes the old furniture from our customers, restores it and sells it which is another way to keep it out of the landfill,” said Sympson.

Bowers responded, “We’re so happy you took part in this CMC Green Certification Program. I’d also like to know if your employees are taking these efforts home.”

Several of the employees mentioned that they do recycle at home. Berggren said, “My wife won’t allow me to throw anything away. In fact, she puts it in the back of my pick-up truck”
