APSU Baseball’s Logan Gray named OVC Player of the Week, earns National Honor

APSU Baseball - Austin Peay State UniversityBrentwood, TN – Junior Logan Gray, of the Austin Peay State University baseball team, was named adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week, Monday, the conference office announced.

In addition, the Leawood, Kansas, native was one of six players named to the Louisville Slugger® National Player of the Week list and received recognition in Baseball America’s weekly “Off the Bat” report.

Gray played an entire OVC series for the first time in 12 months and batted .614 (8-for-13) with two doubles, three home runs and 11 RBI against Eastern Kentucky. That followed a midweek outing that saw him go 3-for-5 with three RBI against Lipscomb.

The junior moved to the outfield for the first time in his career against EKU and began the series with a 4-for-5, four RBI performance that included two doubles and a home run. Gray had a quieter 1-for-3 outing, Saturday, but still put up two RBI. He finished the weekend with a monster 3-for-5, five RBI performance that saw him hit two home runs and post an RBI in four of his five plate appearances.

Gray finished the week with a 1.227 slugging percentage and .583 on-base percentage. In addition, he had the game-winning RBI in all four wins last week and posted a multi-RBI effort in all four games.

For the season, the junior is batting a team-best .384 with nine home runs, despite missing 14 games due to injury. Against OVC competition, Gray has a slash line of .444/.475/.944 in just 10 games, including RBIs in six consecutive contests.

The award is Austin Peay’s second OVC Player of the Week in 2016 – Michael Costanzo, February 22nd – but is the first of Gray’s career.
