APSU Men's GolfBrentwood, TN – Senior Austin Peay State University men’s golfer Erik Hedberg has been named adidas®/Ohio Valley Conference Men’s Co-Golfer of the Week after earning runner-up honors at the Tiger Invitational, Tuesday.

Hedberg shares the honor with UT Martin’s Hunter Richardson, who won the Tennessee State Big Blue Invitational in Nashville, TN.

The Barcelona native shot 212 (71-72-69) to share runner-up honors at Missouri’s home tournament with the Tigers Hayden Buckley.

Hedberg led the tournament in birdies (19) and averaged a tournament-best 3.67 strokes per hole on par-4 attempts; he rolled in eight birdies overall and shot three-under on par-4s during Tuesday’s final round.

The 353-yard, par-4 No. 17 at The Club at Old Hawthorne was Hedberg’s favored haunt at the Tiger Invitational; he birdied the hole in all three rounds. He also birdied holes No. 4, 8, 9, 10 and 18 twice during the 54-hole tournament.

Hedberg is the third Gov in as many tournaments to record a final-round score in the 60s, after Alex Vegh (69, Coca-Cola Wofford Intercollegiate) and Hunter Tidwell (68, Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate). Among OVC golfers with a minimum of 25 rounds completed, Hedberg’s 74.6 stroke average ranks 19th, thanks in no small part to a recent stretch that has seen him shoot par or better in five of his last six rounds.

This is Hedberg’s first career weekly honor from the OVC, and the first for a Governor since Marco Iten won for the week of April 10, 2014.

Hedberg and the Govs take a week off before heading to the Heart of Dixie for the 2017 OVC Men’s Golf Championships at the Fighting Joe at Muscle Shoals. The event kicks off April 24th.
