APSU BaseballRound Rock, TX – For a second consecutive year, Austin Peay State University (APSU) alumnus Tyler Rogers, a relief pitcher for the Sacramento River Cats, has been named to the Triple-A All-Star Game which will be held July 11th at Huntington Park in Columbus, Ohio.

Rogers is in his third season with the Triple-A River Cats and is again out to an impressive start with a 3-1 record and 1.85 ERA in 30 relief appearances.

His improvement on the mound is evident in his strikeout totals with 36 strikeouts in 39 innings, an 8.31 strikeout per nine innings mark and 2.25 strikeout to walk ratio – both marks his best since his 2015 season.

As expected, the right-handed submariner has been particularly effective against right-handed batters with 25 strikeouts while limiting those hitters to a .183 batting average. Earlier this season he had a stretch of 17.0 innings over 13 appearances without allowing an earned run that ended June 19th. After permitting two runs on June 19th, he has recovered with three consecutive scoreless outings totaling 4.2 innings.

Rogers is one of three Governors alumni to be selected to the Triple-A All-Star Game all time, but the first to be named to the event twice. He joins George Sherrill (2004) and A.J. Ellis (2008), each eventually reaching the major leagues. Sherill became one of only 101 players all-time to play in both the Triple-A and Major League All-Star games, accomplishing the latter feat in 2008 with Baltimore.
