Austin Peay State University Track and Field place top finishes at Birmingham and Nashville

APSU Women's Track and FieldClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) track and field team posted seven top-five finishes in its split weekend at the Samford Bulldog Invitational and the Music City Challenge, Saturday.

Karlijn Schouten took first place in the pole vault in Birmingham, Alabama with a 3.95-meter leap. It is tied for the second-best mark by an ASUN Conference student-athlete this season and trails only her own 4.03-meter mark at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational in Louisville, Kentucky on January 27th.

Myra Eriksson finished third in the pole vault with her second-best finish of the season at 3.51 meters.

Both Kyra Wilder and Camaryn McClelland posted second-place finishes in the 60-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash, respectively. Wilder’s 24.81-second dash is a season-high for the Smyrna, Tennessee native and the second-best time by a Governor this season.

Freshman Isis Banks finished fifth in the 200-meter with a career-best time of 25.11, while Na’Riyah Lee placed 27th in the event. Both Banks and Wilder also finished in the top-10 of the 60-meter hurdles, finishing seventh and 10th, respectively.

All three APSU Govs that participated in the 400-meter dash – Alexis Arnett, Sydney Hartoin and Ashleigh Stephen – took home top-15 marks. Arnett finished sixth with a time of 58.04 and was closely followed by Hartoin’s seventh place, 58.09 time. Stephen posted her best time in the event this season at 1:00.65 which was best for 13th.

Freshman Amani Sharif’s 5.79-meter long jump is her second-best mark this season and fifth among ASUN jumpers.

Austin Peay State University captured a pair of top-15 finishes at Vanderbilt’s Music City Challenge in Nashville.

Kenisha Phillips took second in the 400-meter dash and was just 11 tenths of a seconds from winning the event. Her 53.66 time is the second-best 400-meter in the program’s indoor history and trails only her own 53.50 time at Louisville’s event last month.

Mikaela Smith finished 12th in the 800-meter dash with a season-best time of 2:12.00, while Lauren Lewis’ 2:15.63 was the second-best time by a Gov in the event this season.
