Austin Peay State University names Jordan Harmon next APSU Director of Athletics Development

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TNJordan Harmon, a 2017 Austin Peay State University alumnus, was named Director of Development for Athletics Fundraising within the University Advancement office at the start of December.

Harmon, a St. Louis native, will be responsible for developing and executing fundraising strategies to enhance Austin Peay’s 16 varsity sports. In that role, he will be assist the department’s efforts to cultivate and steward major gifts for the athletics department. Harmon replaces Alaric Klinghard, who left the position this past summer.

APSU Governors Club Overtime Social set for January 20th

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University’s Governors Club will host its Winter 2017 Overtime Social, 5:00pm – 7:00pm, Friday, January 20th, 2017 at the River Club Golf and Learning Center located at 1150 Warfield Boulevard in Clarksville.

The Governors Club Overtime Social is an event designed for Governors Club members and Austin Peay fans alike to meet and greet with Governors coaches while enjoying light appetizers and a cash bar. Athletics Director Ryan Ivey, along with coaches in attendance, will make remarks beginning at 6:00pm.

Annual APSU Basketball Bash set for October 28th, 2016

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University athletics will host its annual ‘Basketball Bash’ at the Bud Barn Friday, 6:00pm, Friday, October 28th, on the Charles Hand Farm.

The program begins with a cocktail hour at 6:00pm, with complimentary beverages for all guests. Austin Peay President Dr. Alisa White will make a few brief remarks prior to dinner, which will be served by Austin Peay’s men and women’s basketball coaches.

Following the dinner, those coaches will introduce their players and staff and get fans fired up for the 2016-17 season, with the first home exhibition slated for November 1st against Thomas More.

It will be a new-look unit under first-year head coach Will Healy that greets the Governors faithful into the rechristened Fortera Stadium, with five home dates dotting the schedule in 2016.

Instant Peay Play: APSU’s Brad Kirtley about to put -30- mark on Hall of Fame career

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – With July quickly approaching on the calendar, Austin Peay State University’s all-time sports information director, and Athletics Department Hall of Famer member, Brad Kirtley is nearing the end of a 30+ year career at the university as he heads into retirement.

Kirtley became APSU’s sports information director in February 1984 — replacing another Athletics Department Hall of Famer member Sherwin Clift — after working in the Southeast Missouri State University’s sports information office.

Former APSU athlete Doug Downey gives back to Governors Baseball

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – On a fall afternoon in 2014, Doug Downey returned home and told his wife, Linda, that he needed to ask her an important question. Throughout their 38 years of marriage, the couple has supported several causes that are important to both of them. But that afternoon, Downey asked Linda if they could scale back the number of charities they gave money to.

“I asked if she would support us, together, focusing our philanthropy so we could make a more significant contribution to Austin Peay State University baseball,” he said. “And Linda could pick a single charity to support also.”

APSU names Josh Jorgensen as Assistant Athletics Director for External Affairs

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Josh Jorgensen, who was the assistant athletic director for external affairs at Texas A&M Commerce the past two years and most recently Commerce’s interim Athletics Director, has been named Austin Peay State University’s Assistant Athletics Director for External Affairs.

That announcement was made Monday by APSU Athletics Director Ryan Ivey. This will be the third time Ivey and Jorgensen have worked together. After working side-by-side at McNeese State (2010-12), Ivey hired him in April 2013 for his position at Texas A&M Commerce.

Austin Peay State University Athletics hosts Clarksville Chamber of Commerce’s “Business After Hours” at APSU Governors Stadium

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University athletics and the Governors Club served as host to the Clarksville Chamber of Commerce’s August “Business After Hours,” Thursday, in the Club Level of Governors Stadium.

The monthly networking event for Chamber members also served as a kickoff for Austin Peay fans to celebrate the beginning of the 2015-16 competition season.

The Lady Govs soccer team opens its season 7:00pm, Friday, against UAB while volleyball will open a week later against Ohio in the Purdue Mortar Board Tournament.
