Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Josh Jorgensen, who was the assistant athletic director for external affairs at Texas A&M Commerce the past two years and most recently Commerce’s interim Athletics Director, has been named Austin Peay State University’s Assistant Athletics Director for External Affairs.

That announcement was made Monday by APSU Athletics Director Ryan Ivey. This will be the third time Ivey and Jorgensen have worked together. After working side-by-side at McNeese State (2010-12), Ivey hired him in April 2013 for his position at Texas A&M Commerce.

“We are excited to welcome Josh and his family to Austin Peay,” said Ivey. “Josh possesses a wealth of experience in a variety of areas within athletics, especially FCS institutions. His knowledge base and skillset align with the current needs of our department. I am confident in his ability to take our external efforts to another level.”

In his new assignment, Jorgensen will be charged with developing and implementing comprehensive marketing/sales plans to increase attendance at all home athletic events as well as create and organize related advertising campaigns.

That includes coordinating all social media campaigns, implementing sales campaigns as it relates to season- and game-day tickets while overseeing www.LetsGoPeay.com as it relates to the marketing and promotional initiatives. Jorgensen also will serve as the department’s liaison to student organizations and community groups

In addition, Jorgensen will coordinate and manage game-day event operations, including supervision of all in-game promotions and marketing efforts. He also will oversee all aspects of the department’s customer service program, including hiring and training of all game-day staff employees.

“Josh is a tireless worker, an innovator and a seasoned professional,” Ivey said. “I have had the ability to watch his career in athletic administration grow and I am confident he will go a great job and represent Austin Peay athletics well.”

APSU athletics newest addition has a background in all those aspects. While at Commerce, Jorgensen directed all ticket sales and renewals, vastly raising football season ticket sales. He helped create a new athletics department logo, which included working with a licensing company, while also helping develop a new athletics department website. The new logo, 50 yards x 50 yards, was emblazoned at midfield of the football field, gaining national coverage.

Jorgensen authored comprehensive revenue-generating plans for each sport while at the same time doubling the corporate sponsorship revenue in the first year. He also directed all social media efforts, doubling Twitter and Facebook followers.

Jorgensen led the annual Lion Safari Tour (summer tour around the state to meet alums and donors). He also initiated and developed the Lion Athletics Club while also launching the Excellence in Athletics Campaign, the department’s largest fundraising campaign in history.

After historically seeing Texas A&M-Commerce events broadcast on the campus radio station, Jorgensen was responsible for negotiating a commercial radio rights agreement.

Jorgensen assumes many of the responsibilities of Alaric Klinghard, who was elevated to the University Advancement office as Director of Corporate Relations. That also was announced Monday.

“Anytime you have staff turnover, it creates an opportunity to really look at what we need to improve our efficiency and become a more effective department,” Ivey said. “Looking at the overall structure and direction of where and how we want to move our department forward, the creation of this position was a natural choice.”

Prior to his two years in Commerce, Jorgensen spent a year in the Athletic Operations department at Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas, where he was the event coordinator for all athletic facilities as well as assisting with the Lumberjacks’ marketing and promotional activities.

At McNeese State, Jorgensen oversaw facility management and coordinated game management operations for all Cowboy and Cowgirl home events.

Prior to his time at McNeese, Jorgensen served as the Director of Stadium Operations for the Lincoln Saltdogs of the American Association, an independent baseball league, while also spending one season as the Director of Ticketing. He also spent time as the Director of Ticketing at Northwestern State.

Jorgensen earned his degree in sports management from Nebraska-Wesleyan in 2003, followed by his master’s degree in sport administration from Northwestern State in 2011.

He and his wife, Angela, have two children, Duke, age 4, and Dallas, age 2.
