Tennessee Vols basketball defeats Vanderbilt, 70-58

 

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsNashville, TN – Two 20-point scoring outputs from junior Victor Bailey Jr. and freshman Jaden Springer, along with a double-double from senior Yves Pons, pushed the No. 25 Tennessee men’s basketball team past Vanderbilt, 70-58, Wednesday inside Memorial Gym.

The win was Tennessee’s (16-6, 9-6 SEC) eighth consecutive victory over Vanderbilt (6-13, 2-11 SEC) and UT’s fifth straight in the Commodores’ home gym.

The Vols were led by Bailey Jr., who poured in 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting and 5-of-8 from 3-point range. The Austin, Texas, native also added three rebounds and three assists.

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – No. 20/21 Tennessee (13-6, 7-4 SEC) embarks on the final road trip and last week of the 2020-21 regular season, traveling to Columbia for a Thursday evening battle with Missouri (8-9/4-8 SEC). The Lady Vols and Tigers will tip it off at 7:02pm CT (8:02pm ET) at Mizzou Arena.

After facing ranked teams in its last four games, UT will play against a pair of unranked Tiger teams at MU on Thursday and vs. Auburn on Sunday to wrap things up prior to the SEC Tournament.

UT is holding down fourth place in the SEC standings and is trying to seize one of the double byes for the league tourney after being predicted to finish sixth in the preseason coaches and media polls.

Sunday’s make-up matinee came about because UK had an open date and UT found itself without an opponent when Vanderbilt opted out of the season. The SEC then waved its wand and checked one postponed game off its list.

Schedule Change: #25 Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball to host #13 Kentucky, Sunday

 

UT Lady VolsBirmingham, AL – The Southeastern Conference has announced a revised schedule for women’s basketball games to be played on January 24th as a result of game postponements during the 2021 season due to the impact of COVID-19 Coronavirus.
 
The schedule for Sunday now includes No. 13 Kentucky at No. 25 Tennessee. The original game was scheduled for January 3rd. UT and UK will meet at 1:00pm CT at Thompson-Boling Arena.

The home game vs. the Wildcats replaces a previously-scheduled road game on Sunday at Vanderbilt.

Kellie Harper‘s squad paused team activities on December 29th and had contests vs. Texas A&M and Kentucky postponed last week due to COVID-19 Coronavirus contact tracing within the program.
