Nashville, TN – The Tennessee gas price average continues to rise, increasing five cents over last week. The Tennessee Gas Price average is now $2.28 which is 10 cents more than one month ago and nearly eight cents more than one year ago.
“Pump prices continue to be pushed higher due to a sustained increase in crude oil pricing,” said Megan Cooper, spokesperson, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Tennesseans will likely see more increases at the pump in the coming weeks as refineries prepare to switch to summer-blend gasoline, which typically costs more to produce.”
Knoxville, TN – With more than 102 million people expected to travel by automobile this holiday season – the most on record since AAA began tracking holiday travel in 2001 – AAA is reminding motorists to celebrate safely and take steps ahead of time to avoid getting behind the wheel impaired.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the season between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day is one of the deadliest times on the road when it comes to impaired driving.
Tampa, FL – AAA projects 39.3 million Americans will travel more than 50 miles away from home this Memorial Day weekend.
Almost 35 million of those travelers will be hitting the road. That is the highest number in 12 years and it presents a distinct danger when combined with holiday related impaired driving.
Knoxville, TN – In 2015, 30 people (25% of all crash fatalities) were killed in drunk-driving crashes over the St. Patrick’s Day holiday period, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
During post-party hours, between midnight and 5:59am, nearly a third of crash fatalities involved drunk drivers.
Knoxville, TN – Over 8,000 crashes and 313 fatalities involving an impaired driver occurred on Tennessee roadways in 2016 according to preliminary data from the Department of Safety and Homeland Security, TITAN Division.
To avoid becoming one of those tragic statistics, AAA and Budweiser urge everyone to have a game plan to get home safely this weekend if they are celebrating away from home with alcohol. This means choosing a designated driver, calling a cab, staying where you are celebrating or finding another safe way home.
