Instant “Peay” Play: Taylor Mott’s return ends Coaching Carousel for APSU Volleyball Team

 

Legends BankClarksville, TN – After having five different coaches over the past five seasons, the Austin Peay State University volleyball team will see the same face sitting on the bench for a change, as Taylor Mott returns to begin her second campaign leading the program.

With Jenny Hazelwood’s exit following the 2008 season, to return to her alma mater Mississippi State University, it started what has been a carousel of changes — for a myriad of different reasons — at the top for the program.

That announcement was made Monday.

Four Austin Peay Lady Govs Volleyball players receive postseason OVC recognition

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsBrentwood, TN – Four Austin Peay State University volleyball student-athletes were named to the Ohio Valley Conference’s postseason all-conference teams, the league office announced, Wednesday.

Junior outside hitter Nikki Doyle and senior libero Paige Economos each received All-OVC recognition. Setter Cami Fields and middle blocker Hillary Plybon, each freshmen, were named to the league’s All-Newcomer squad.

Austin Peay Lady Govs Volleyball falls in four sets at Southeast Missouri

 

APSU Sports Information: Austin Peay Volleyball

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsCape Girardeau, MO – Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team dropped a four-set decision (25-16, 22-25, 15-25, 15-25) against Southeast Missouri, Friday night, in Ohio Valley Conference action at Houch Fieldhouse.

Austin Peay (10-20, 8-11 OVC) will enter the regular season’s final day – a 6:00pm, Saturday contest at Murray State – needing a victory and some help if it is to return to the OVC Tournament next weekend.

Austin Peay Lady Govs volleyball signs two during early signing period

 

APSU Sports Information: Austin Peay Volleyball

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University head volleyball coach Bill Egbert opened his first signing period with the addition of two players for the 2013 season: Sammie Ebright, of Sunbury, Ohio, and Aubrey Marsellis, of Owasso, OK, who each have signed national letters of intent.

Ebright, a 6-0 outside hitter, recorded 279 kills, a .279 attack percentage and 539 digs during her career at Big Walnut High School. As a senior, she recorded 179 kills and 157 digs and was named First-Team All-State by the Ohio Volleyball Coaches Association. She was the Ohio Capital Conference’s “Player of the Year” and first-team selection as well as District Player of the Year. Ebright also was selected to the Under Armour Girls’ High School All-America volleyball athlete watch list for the 2011-12 season. «Read the rest of this article»

Austin Peay Lady Govs Volleyball have simple task this weekend, Win

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University volleyball team’s simplest path to the Ohio Valley Conference tournament is to just win its final two regular-season contests.

However, that task may be easier said than done with a 6:30pm, Friday visit to second-place Southeast Missouri, followed by what could be a crucial 6:00pm, Saturday contest at sixth-place Murray State – one of the teams the Lady Govs are tied with heading into the final weekend.

Hernandez earns OVC weekly honor

Austin Peay State UniversityIlyanna HernandezBrentwood, TN – Austin Peay State University senior outside hitter Ilyanna Hernandez was named the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week the league office announced Monday.

Hernandez, of Torrance, CA, led Austin Peay in kills against both Tennessee State (15 kills) and UT Martin (26 kills) last week. Her 26-kill performance at UT Martin, Saturday, was a career-best and tied for the second-best offensive performance in the league this season. Hernandez recorded a .353 attack percentage at Tennessee State, Friday, as the Lady Govs only real offensive threat. Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team begins a critical four-match Ohio Valley Conference road trip with two league outings this weekend. The Lady Govs will face the two teams currently tied for second place in the standings, first a 7:00pm, Friday contest at Tennessee State, followed by a 2:00pm, Saturday contest at UT Martin.

Austin Peay Lady Govs Volleyball sweeps OVC weekly honors

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsBrentwood, TN – Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team swept the adidas Ohio Valley Conference’s Player of the Week honors, the league office announced, Monday.

Junior outside hitter Nikki Doyle earned the league’s offensive award, senior libero Paige Economos was named the defensive award winner and freshman setter Cami Fields picked up the conference’s setter honor.

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team closes out the home portion of its 2011 schedule with a pair of Ohio Valley Conference contests this weekend. First, the Lady Govs will host Tennessee Tech, 7:00pm, Friday before a 1:00pm, Homecoming Saturday contest against Jacksonville State. Prior to the start of Friday’s contest Austin Peay will recognize four seniors: Marie Mullins, Paige Economos, Kayla Grantham, and Illyanna Hernandez.
