APSU Sports Information: Austin Peay Volleyball
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University head volleyball coach Bill Egbert opened his first signing period with the addition of two players for the 2013 season: Sammie Ebright, of Sunbury, Ohio, and Aubrey Marsellis, of Owasso, OK, who each have signed national letters of intent.
Ebright, a 6-0 outside hitter, recorded 279 kills, a .279 attack percentage and 539 digs during her career at Big Walnut High School. As a senior, she recorded 179 kills and 157 digs and was named First-Team All-State by the Ohio Volleyball Coaches Association. She was the Ohio Capital Conference’s “Player of the Year” and first-team selection as well as District Player of the Year. Ebright also was selected to the Under Armour Girls’ High School All-America volleyball athlete watch list for the 2011-12 season.
“Sammie has a great physical presence as well as a tremendous skill set,” said Egbert. “She comes from a great volleyball background and is going to bring a lot of experience with her. Losing two outside hitters this season (Ilyanna Hernandez and Kayla Grantham) it was important to find a quality recruit who could step in and help us immediately next year.”
Marsellis, a 6-1 setter, also played outside hitter at Owasso High School, finishing her senior campaign with 354 kills, a .385 attack percentage, 526 assists and 284 digs. She was named All-State by the Oklahoma Coaches Association and will have the opportunity to play in the All-State contest this summer. Marsellis was named one of Oklahoma’s top five volleyball players by PrepVolleyball.com.
“Aubrey is a great player and athlete,” said Egbert. “We are lucky to be getting such a great kid in our program. She will provide us some flexibility next season at setter and has the potential to be a threat at the position.”
