APSU Hall of Fame Inductee Bob Swope: A Legend Revisited

Written by Brad Kirtley

The stories abound…even some 70 years later. Call it the Legend of Bob Swope.

Swope, a Nashville native who starred at East High School (the late Edgar Allen, a longtime Nashville Banner sports writer called him the “best athlete to ever come out” of the school), joined the Navy out of high school and then attended Austin Peay via the GI Bill during the late 1940s.

APSU Hall of Fame Inductee Terrence Holt: The Greatest Game Changer

Written by Brad Kirtley
APSU Sports Information Director Emeritus

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN Brad Kirtley, who was Austin Peay’s Sports Information Director from 1984-2016 and is himself a Hall of Fame inductee, takes a look back at this year’s Hall of Fame inductees, beginning with Terrence Holt…

It was the final game of the 2007 season. The Governors seemingly had the road contest in hand, leading 17-10 at Murray State late into the fourth quarter after forcing eight turnovers.

But the Racers avoided mistakes for one of the few times all day and drove 80 yards to tie the game with a little more than two minutes left. The home team certainly would have the momentum if overtime occurred, especially with some of the Govs’ offensive personnel hampered by injury.

APSU Athletics Hall of Fame to induct Paul Aaron into Honors Category

Austin Peay Sports Information

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Paul “Slick” Aaron was more than the brother of Dave Aaron. He was an outstanding three-sport athlete in his own right, in particular, in basketball during the late 1940s. He will be honored posthumously, 9:00am, Saturday, when he is inducted into the APSU Athletics Hall of Fame from the Honors category.

When the elder Aaron took over as athletic director and basketball coach in 1946-47, he was fortunate that brother Paul was one of the incoming first-year basketball players.
