American Heart Association Comments on Sugary Drink Taxes in Mexico

 

The American Heart Association comments on first-year evaluation of implementation of Mexico’s sugar-sweetened beverage tax in 2014.

American Heart AssociationDallas, TX – In 2014, Mexico implemented a tax on sugar-sweetened beverages as a step toward reversing the twin epidemics of diabetes and obesity.

A study examining the first-year impact on beverage volume sales in Mexico after tax implementation shows that a tax of one peso per liter decreased the volume of sugary drinks purchased by a significant amount (6% monthly average), while also increasing the volume of healthier drinks purchased (4% monthly average), specifically bottled water.

Clarksville Job Fair to support Montgomery County Friends of the Shelter

 

Valvoline Instant Oil ChangeClarksville, TN –  Convenient Car Care, Inc., a Clarksville based automotive company, is hosting a job fair at the Valvoline Instant Oil Change on Tuesday September 3rd, from 10:00am-3:00pm, and company officials indicate they will use the event to raise money and awareness for the Montgomery County Friends of the Shelter.

“We support the Montgomery County Friends of the Shelter, and want to support them in any way we possibly can,” said Candace Ursery, VP of Convenient Car Care. “Not only will we be hiring new members for our team, but we will be raising money and collecting bags of dog food for the Friends of the Shelter on September 3rd” Ursery said.

Tennessee Highway Patrol Makes Record Currency Seizure in Cumberland County

 

The Tennessee Highway Patrol LogoNashville, TN – Tennessee State Trooper Chris Adams discovered a record sum of U.S. currency after making a traffic stop on Interstate 40 in Cumberland County on Saturday, March 12th, 2011.

At approximately 10:31am on Saturday, Adams, a Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) Interdiction Plus Trooper, stopped a 2005 Freightliner tractor trailer with California tags for following too closely at mile marker 306 westbound on Interstate-40.

Officers found more than $4 million of U.S. currency inside the duct taped bundles.
