UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – No. 13/18 Tennessee (1-0) is back at Thompson-Boling Arena on Wednesday night, as James Madison (1-1) comes to town for a 6:00pm contest.

This will mark the second straight season these teams have played, with the Lady Vols winning, 81-69, in last year’s season opener in Harrisonburg, VA.

Wednesday night’s game marks the second of three straight at home to open the campaign for the Lady Vols. By the time Texas departs Knoxville on December 10th, Tennessee will have played seven of its first 10 games at home.

APSU Men’s Basketball to play in 2017 NIT Season Tip-Off

APSU Men's BasketballBrooklyn, NY – Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team will participate in the NIT Season Tip-Off, November 10th-19th, 2017, hosting two games and traveling for two contests as part of the 32nd iteration of the event.

The Governors will travel to Vanderbilt, November 10th, to open the event against a Commodore squad that advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season. It will be the Govs third meeting with the Commodores since 2013.

101st Airborne Division Engineer recognized for Volunteer Service

Fort Campbell KY - 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – When he was nominated for the GEICO Military Service Award, Sgt. 1st Class Julio Mella, 21st Brigade Engineer Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, was honored but did not think much about it.

“There were many, many people being nominated with me,” Mella said. “I wasn’t being pessimistic, just realistic.”

The GEICO Military Service Awards Program “spotlights the valuable and lasting contributions enlisted members of the armed forces make in three specific areas of endeavor,” according to the GEICO website.

Service members can be nominated for service in drug and alcohol abuse prevention, fire safety and fire prevention or traffic safety and accident prevention. Each year, one member from each branch of the service is selected to receive the award.

Tennessee Volunteers Basketball loses to Nebraska Cornhuskers 82-71

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsBrooklyn, NY – Tennessee lost to Nebraska, 82-71, in the consolation game of the Barclays Center Classic on Saturday afternoon, as the Vols (4-3) played their second game in less than 13 hours.

Tennessee was led by Kevin Punter Jr., who tallied 23 points. Robert Hubbs III added 13 and Admiral Schofield scored 12 points.

Nebraska (5-2) was led by Tai Webster, who netted 18 points. He was joined in double-figures by Andrew White (15), Shavon Shields (11), Jake Hammond (11) and Glynn Watson Jr. (10). Hammond grabbed 10 rebounds as the Huskers out-rebounded the Vols, 46-30.

UT Vols come up short against George Washington, 73-70

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsBrooklyn, NY – Down by as many as 15 points in the second half, the Vols had two chances to tie the game in the final 10 seconds, but were unable to connect in a tough 73-70 loss to George Washington at the Barclays Center Classic. Kevin Punter had a game-high 24 points while Devon Baulkman added 16 and Robert Hubbs III had 13 points.

The Colonials (6-0) advanced to the championship game, while the Vols (4-2) will turnaround and play in less than 13 hours against Nebraska at 12 Noon on Saturday.

Down 49-34 less than five minutes into the second half, Tennessee cut their deficit one point on a Baulkman 3-pointer with 1:55 left in regulation at 69-68.

Armani Moore scores a career-high 29 in win over Black Knights

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – A late first-half surge capped by back-to-back baskets from Robert Hubbs III propelled Tennessee to a 95-80 victory over Army West Point Tuesday night at Thompson-Boling Arena.

Armani Moore scored a career-high 29 points in the victory, while Kevin Punter Jr. poured in 26 and Hubbs finished with 14, the fifth time in as many games this season that UT has had at least three players score in double figures. Derek Reese pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds and hit the 3-pointer head coach Rick Barnes promised he could take for reaching a rebounding milestone.
