Clarksville Police report Crossing Guard struck by Truck at Northeast High School

 

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – On Friday, December 13th, 2019, at 2:52pm, Clarksville Police Officer Alex Koziol responded to a motor vehicle vs pedestrian accident. The pedestrian struck by the pickup truck is a crossing guard who was on duty in the intersection of Trenton Road and Marla Drive.

The crossing guard was wearing her reflective safety vest and holding a stop sign. The crossing guard stated she was near the crosswalk and had stopped traffic in both directions on Trenton Road and on Marla Drive allowing traffic from Northeast High School to exit the school parking lot.

Crossing guards visit Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts, want Safer School Zones

 

Crossing guards message: “Slow down, get off the phone, pay attention”

City of ClarksvilleClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Police Department continues to focus on enforcement of traffic laws in school zones and around school buses.

It only takes a few moments of conversation with school crossing guards to understand the depth of the problem. Three guards — Raphaela Velasquez, Vanna Gibson and Barbie Hemmingsen — recently visited Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts to appeal for help in getting drivers to behave in school zones.

Clarksville Police Observations on First Day of School

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – Clarksville Police Department traffic units was out in force today for the first day of school and made a couple of observations which drivers might want to pay more attention to.

Traffic was very congested in the school zones as drivers were adjusting to the school zones being active. There were many drivers who were not operating their phones “hands-free” in the school zones when the lights were flashing.

Clarksville Police Crossing Guard gets hit on Rossview Road

 

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – On Monday, April 2nd, 2017 around 7:28am, a Clarksville Police Department crossing guard was hit by a motor vehicle while directing traffic on Rossview Road in front of Rossview High School located at 1237 Rossview Road.

Based on the preliminary investigation, the crossing guard had the Stop sign displayed for westbound traffic and Ryan Smith, 20, driving a 2013 Chevrolet, failed to obey the signal, hit the crossing guard, and the crossing guard was sent airborne crashing onto the hood and windshield of the car.
