2017 Nashville Sounds Coaching Staff

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds 2017 coaching staff has been announced by the Oakland Athletics and is highlighted by new Manager, Ryan Christenson.

Christenson, 42, will manage at the Triple-A level for the first time after leading the Double-A Midland RockHounds to Texas League titles in 2015 and 2016.

The 2016 Texas League Manager of the Year, Christenson enters his fifth season in the Oakland organization. His coaching staff will consist of pitching coach Rick Rodriguez, hitting coach Eric Martins, athletic trainer Brad LaRosa and strength and conditioning coach Henry Torres. Rodriguez, Martins and LaRosa were members of the 2016 Sounds coaching staff.

Nashville Sounds lose to Tacoma Rainiers 4-2 in extra innings

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – A wild pitch and a bases loaded walk in the top of the tenth inning proved to be the difference in the Tacoma Rainiers’ 4-2 win over the Nashville Sounds Friday night in front of 9,687 fans at First Tennessee Park.

With the bases loaded and one out in the tenth, Tucker Healy uncorked a wild pitch to the backstop that allowed Daniel Robertson to race home from third with the go-ahead run.

After a strikeout and intentional walk, the bases were loaded again for Zach Shank who worked a four-pitch walk to force in another run.

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Sounds saw Salt Lake strike for a pair of late runs and dropped Thursday night’s contest in front of a record-setting 10,610 fans at First Tennessee Park, 4-2.

Nashville ended the night 2-for-15 with runners in scoring position and failed to capitalize on three Salt Lake errors. The bullpen’s streak of 19.2 innings without allowing a run came to an end, as the Bees added two runs late in the game to steal the third game of the series.

Nashville SoundsTucson, AZ – Starting pitcher Seth McClung threw seven shutout innings to guide the Nashville Sounds to a 2-1 victory over the Tucson Padres on Sunday night at Kino Stadium.

In his best pitching performance and third quality start of the season, the 31-year-old McClung (1-4) surrendered five hits while walking and striking out four in 104 pitches (62 strikes) for his first victory. Only two of McClung’s five hits allowed left the infield.

Nashville SoundsTucson, AZ – Third baseman Andy Gonzalez delivered a go-ahead, two-run single with two outs in the eighth inning for a 4-3 victory over the Tucson Padres on Friday evening at Kino Stadium.

Trailing 2-3 entering the eighth, second baseman Eric Farris got things started by singling, stealing second base, and reaching third on a throwing error. After first baseman Erick Almonte and right fielder Jordan Brown worked two-out walks, Gonzalez grounded a two-run single up the middle to plate Farris an Almonte. The game-winning RBI was Gonzalez’s second in the last three games.

Nashville Sounds lose to Tucson Padres 13-0

Nashville SoundsTucson, AZ – The Nashville Sounds opened an eight-game road trip with a 13-0 defeat to the Tucson Padres on Thursday night at Kino Stadium.

The defeat was Nashville’s worst since the club dropped a 17-3 contest to the Oklahoma City RedHawks on April 16th, 2009 at Greer Stadium.

Plating runs in seven of nine innings, Tucson’s 13 runs in the game were the most scored against Nashville this season, while the 17 hits given up matched a season-high.
