Austin Peay State University Athletics has Fifteen students participate in December commencement

 

APSU - Austin Peay State University SportsClarksville, TN – Fifteen Austin Peay State University athletics alumni and student-athletes were scheduled to participate in Winter Commencement ceremonies, Friday, at the Dunn Center.

Dr. Bruce Myers, who was the 2013 APSU National Alumni Association Distinguished Professor Award recipient and who serves as the Faculty Athletic Representative, served as commencement speaker.

The Governors enter the contest with 21 straight road losses. Their last road victory came against Tennessee State, a 26-23 verdict, September 18th, 2010.

APSU Governors Football set to play Tennessee Volunteers for first time

 

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUKnoxville, TN – The curtain will rise on the Kirby Cannon Era, 5:00pm, Saturday, when Austin Peay State University plays Tennessee for the first time in program history.

Cannon, who was hired as Austin Peay’s 18th head coach in mid-March, is only the third APSU coach hired in the last 50 years that owned previous college-coaching head-coaching experience.

APSU Football to Scrimmage Friday at Governors Stadium

 

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUClarksville, TN –  Austin Peay State University’s football team will conduct its second spring scrimmage, 9:30am, Friday in Governors Stadium.

The scrimmage will feature Governors first-team offense against the second-team defense and the second-team offense against the first-team defense. With mandatory campus activities for freshmen taking place much of the day, almost no third-team scrimmaging will occur. In fact, the freshmen absence will limit the total play numbers run during the scrimmage.

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUClarksville, TN – Senior defensive end Earnest Smith, who was chosen as Austin Peay State University’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player for 2012, will miss the 2013 season after suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon in a recent summer conditioning drill.

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Senior quarterback Jake Ryan, of the Austin Peay State University football team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Ryan took OVC Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors for his Senior Day performance against Tennessee Tech. He was 27-for-38 for 310 yards and four touchdowns in the Govs 38-31 victory over the Golden Eagles in Ryan’s Austin Peay swan song.

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – After racing out to an early 31-0 lead, Austin Peay’s football team survived a furious Tennessee Tech comeback to hang on for a 38-31 Ohio Valley Conference victory on Senior Day.

The victory gives Austin Peay (2-9, 1-7 OVC) its first Ohio Valley Conference win in 2012, as well as a victory in Sgt. York Trophy contests every season since the award’s inception in 2007. Tennessee Tech falls to 3-8 (1-7 OVC). Austin Peay’s 38-point outburst is the Govs largest scoring output in 46 meetings with the Golden Eagles.
