101st Airborne Division soldiers travel to Bastogne Belgium to celebrate 75th Battle of the Bulge Anniversary

 

Fort Campbell KY - 101st Airborne DivisionBastogne, Belgium – Nearly a million people converged on the city of Bastogne to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge victory, fought and won during World War II, with a parade, December 14th, 2019. The Bastogne parade was the physical embodiment of joy as visitors and locals commemorated the defeat of Nazi forces in the small town.

The 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) sent more than 90 Soldiers to Belgium to march in the parade and participate in other ceremonies, as well as learn about the unit’s history.

The Battle of the Bulge took place six months after D-day.

American Red Cross asks you to Give Blood during National Volunteer Month

American Red CrossNashville, TN – The American Red Cross encourages eligible donors to give blood or platelets during National Volunteer Month this April. Eligible donors of all blood types – especially type O – are needed to help ensure blood products are available for patients this spring.

Nearly half of the public knows someone who has been helped by a blood transfusion.

Clarksville's Customs House Museum and Cultural CenterClarksville, TN – The Customs House is exhibiting a suite of Andy Warhol portraits by renowned photographer Raeanne Rubenstein. Rubenstein’s exhibit, The Fascinating Mr. Warhol, is on display through May 4th.

The artist will be speaking about her experiences and her friendship with Mr. Warhol in a gallery talk on Tuesday, April 8th. The event, which begins at 7:00pm, is free to the public.

Austin Peay State University Unity Celebration to feature speech by acclaimed journalist Soledad O’Brien March 25th

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – The award-winning broadcast journalist Soledad O’Brien doesn’t shy away from difficult subjects. Her reporting on Haitian orphanages following a massive earthquake in that country earned her an Emmy, and her work for CNN during Hurricane Katrina brought her and the network a George Foster Peabody Award.

At 7:00pm on March 25th, O’Brien will speak at the Memorial Health Gym (Red Barn) on the Austin Peay State University campus as part of the annual Student Affairs Unity Celebration. O’Brien will deliver a speech titled “Diversity: On TV, Behind the Scenes and In Our Lives.”

The CurraheesFort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionPaktika Province, Afghanistan – Key Afghan National Security Forces and provincial leadership and staff members from Task Force Currahee, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, celebrated Currahee’s 69th birthday with a dinner, July 20th at Forward Operating Base Sharana in the Paktika Province, Afghanistan.

“We were able to share a delicious meal and good fellowship with our Afghan counterparts,” said U.S. Army Maj. Edward Brady, the brigade executive officer from 4th BCT, 101st Airborne Div., Task Force Currahee, and native of Las Cruces, NM. “It was fitting to be celebrating the birth of our unit with our Afghan partners who are in certain aspects at the beginning of building their legacy.”
