During Open Enrollment, Tennesseans can apply for cost assistance, change plans, and enroll in a plan.

Tennesseans will have access to marketplace coverage for 2017 no matter where they live.

The American Heart Association CEO Roundtable launches with new survey showing American workers overestimate their health—leading to increased risk of heart disease and other serious illness

American Heart AssociationNew York, NY — Today, Nancy Brown, CEO of the American Heart Association (AHA), Henry Kravis, Co-CEO and Co-Chairman of KKR & Co. L.P., Terry Lundgren, Chairman and CEO of Macy’s, Inc., and 19 additional CEOs from some of America’s largest companies announced the formation of the American Heart Association CEO Roundtable. This groundbreaking initiative is designed to create a workplace culture in which healthy choices are the default choices. As part of the announcement, the AHA also released results from a new Nielsen online survey among 2,004 employees[1] showing that Americans overestimate their health—putting them at greater risk for heart disease and other serious illness.

Greater Nashville Heart Walk to impact Heart Health on October 12th

 

American Heart Association - Heart WalkNashville, TN – Someone has a heart attack every 34 seconds. Someone has a stroke every 40 seconds. Heart disease and stroke make a huge impact on the health of Middle Tennessee – but the upcoming Heart Walk aims to make an even bigger impact by fighting back against the no. 1 and no. 4 killers of Americans.

The American Heart Association’s Greater Nashville Heart Walk will bring together more than 12,000 walkers at Vanderbilt University on Saturday, October 12th, 2013, in one of the largest non-competitive walks in all of Tennessee. The event is free and open to all, but fundraising and donations are encouraged.

Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn at her Town Hall meeting in Clarksville, TN

Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn held a town hall meeting yesterday afternoon with her constituents. During the roughly hour long meeting Blackburn repeatedly expressed her opposition to the Democrats’ health-care reform principles. The meeting was quiet and orderly. Blackburn punctuated her responses using frequent Republican Party talking points, like not allowing bureaucrats to stand between patients and their doctors and hospitals. In all fairness, it must be said that is exactly what Health Insurance companies do on a daily basis. She also expressed her support for leaving the for-profit insurance companies in overall control of the health care system.

Blackburn took questions from the audience on topics ranging from the obvious questions on healthcare reform to lobbying, the growing number of cabinet Czar positions, immigration reform, tort reform, and emergency room misuse. Many members of the audience raised their hands to ask questions, however just a select few were able to ask them. Of those, the majority of those who were allowed to ask questions supported Blackburn positions on healthcare reform, however that could easily be a result of how those questioners were selected. «Read the rest of this article»
