101st Airborne Division Bulldog Battalion Delivers Backpacks to Children in MosulNinewah, Iraq – 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment (Bulldog Battalion), 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division currently operates in an advise-and-assist capacity in Mosul, Iraq. The Bulldog Battalion employs its forces to a myriad of mission tasks aimed at strengthening the Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) within Ninewah. In late July 2019, Bulldog Battalion received 950 backpacks from Retired General Petreaeus’ foundation. 101st Airborne Division 2nd Brigade Soldiers First Warfighters to Sling Load TCN-LightWritten by 1st Lt. Daniel Johnson Fort Campbell, KY – Soldiers from the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and pilots from the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division, became the first Soldiers in the operational Army to sling load the Tactical Command Node-Light last week. This training was done in preparation for the brigade’s upcoming rotation as part of the Network Integration Exercise at Fort Bliss, Texas, in July. Townsend, XVIII Airborne Corps commander, praised Volesky’s leadership during his command. “Our Army couldn’t have chosen a better leader to command this division two and a half years ago than Gary Volesky,” Townsend said. “During his watch, elements of the 101st have deployed to Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Turkey, Liberia and a whole list of other nations around the world in support of both combat and shaping operations for our nation.” ![]() Maj. Some of the Soldiers in U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Johnathan Walker’s section shiver as freezing rain continues to fall upon their position. “Fire!” yells Walker as he makes a cutting motion through the rain with his hand. The round leaves the tube of the M777 artillery piece with its trademark boom and smoke and the artillerymen begin to move again. Daniel Johnson Northern Iraq – Following the attacks of September 11th, then Pfc. Brian Bailey prepared for war along with the rest of the U.S Army. When he arrived to Fort Campbell, Kentucky, home of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), he was immediately called to duty. “Who wants to deploy right now?” asked the Soldier who ran the replacement company. Bailey and one other man raised their hands and they were separated from the group. The Marines, from 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force – Crisis Response – Central Command, and Soldiers from 1st Squadron, 75th Cavalry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), are leveraging their previous experiences to aid the ISF as part of the Coalition’s mission to provide advice and assistance. “These men [the ISF] are going to win,” said Marine Maj.
