Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University football team had opportunities in its season-opening loss to Mercer, but was unable to capitalize and found itself on the wrong side of a 28-7 result.
The Govs caught an early break when Damien Whitfield forced a fumble inside their own 40, which Demarion Allen fell on for the Govs.

Austin Peay State University Governors Football loses 49-12 at Mercer

Macon, GA – Austin Peay State University’s football team could not overcome a 28-0 first-quarter deficit and fell to Mercer, 49-21, Saturday, in a non-conference football game played at Mercer University Stadium.
The loss dropped APSU to 0-6 on the season while Mercer improved to 5-2. The Governors losing streak now stands at 18 games.
 Austin Peay freshman walk-on Otis Gerron rushed for 196 yards, including an 89-yard TD run in the Govs loss. (APSU Sports Information)

After playing back-to-back Top 25 FCS team in the last two weeks in Illinois State and Eastern Kentucky—and three out of the last four weeks—the Governors will play Mercer, 3:00pm CT, Saturday, at Mercer University Stadium.
