He received a dual Bachelor of Arts in history and theater arts-dance from Beloit College in Wisconsin and a Master of Fine Arts in dance from Mills College in California.

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Forty years ago, Glenn Carter, an Austin Peay State University (APSU) sociology professor, volunteered to serve as the faculty advisor for a new organization, the Student Coalition for Gay Rights. It wasn’t an easy assignment.

That February, the club’s students were told their organization had “no place at Austin Peay State University,” which meant they would not be recognized as an official student group.

APSU Theatre and Dance recognized at national dance conference

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Earlier this month, the Austin Peay State University Department of Theatre and Dance participated in the American College Dance Conference (ACDA) in Hartsville, South Carolina, where an original piece choreographed by Margaret Rennerfeldt, department chair, was selected for the event’s prestigious gala performance.

“The American College Dance Association (ACDA) is at the forefront of dance in higher education,” Marcus Hayes, associate professor of dance, said.

APSU students Claire Estes, Patrick Pride, Britanie Childs, Alexandria Heide, Kelly Barrios, Janesha Boothe, Diondre Booker, Megan Cundiff and Destiny Smith performed an original piece choreographed by Margaret Rennerfeldt at the American College Dance Conference.

“The World Goes ‘Round’” to be presented by APSU Theatre and Dance this week

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Kander and Ebb’s “The World Goes ‘Round” will be presented by the Austin Peay State University Department of Theatre and Dance, in association with the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts to celebrate show tunes from both stage and screen next week at the Trahern Theatre.

The musical, directed by APSU professor Darren Michael and featuring choreography by APSU associate professor Marcus Hayes and musical direction by APSU associate professor Dr. Christopher Hayes, runs from Wednesday, April 5th, through Saturday, April 8th, with performances beginning at 7:30pm each night. A special matinee performance will take place at 2:00pm on Sunday, April 9th.

Austin Peay State University’s Marcus Hayes named to Tennessee Board of Regents’ Maxine Smith Fellows program

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Earlier this year, Marcus Hayes, Austin Peay State University associate professor of dance, was awarded a prestigious Maxine Smith Fellowship by the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR).

The TBR established the highly selective Smith Fellows program in 2002 to provide advanced administrative training and career development opportunities to African American employees.
