Austin Peay State University Athletics has record 168 Govs named to OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll

 

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsBrentwood, TN – Another record in the books for Austin Peay State University (APSU) student-athletes, with 168 Govs among an Ohio Valley Conference-record 1,625 league athletes named to the OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll, Wednesday, August 5th, 2020.

For the fifth time since 2001, the department has put more than 100 student-athletes on the Commissioner’s Honor Roll. The 168 student-athletes honored for 2019-20 set a department record for the third straight year.

APSU has Six Govs earn Arthur Ashe Jr. Sport Scholar honors

 

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsFairfax, VA – Six Austin Peay State University (APSU) student-athletes have been named to the 2020 Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholar Teams, selected by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education magazine.

The APSU Governors tennis teams account for four of the six honors, with Anton Damberg and Christian Edison representing the men’s team and Danielle Morris and Fabienne Schmidt earning recognition for the women’s program. Linebacker Pat Walker, of the football team, and track and field standout Lennex Walker also earned honors for their work.

APSU Athletes continue success in classroom during Coronavirus pandemic

 

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) student-athletes continued their recent string of success in the classroom, the department announcing its 297 athletes combined to post a 3.292 grade-point average during the Spring 2020 semester.

It is the sixth consecutive semester the APSU athletics department has posted a 3.0 GPA or better and the eighth time in department history. In addition, each of the 15 varsity teams recorded a 3.0 GPA for the second consecutive semester.

“I must commend all of our student-athletes for their accomplishments in the classroom,” said APSU Director of Athletics Gerald Harrison.

Outstanding 2019 Austin Peay State University Football season honored at Night of Champions

 

APSU FootballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) football players, coaches, alumni and fans gathered Friday night to celebrate the historic 2019 season at the Night of Champions in the Dunn Center.

This event put the final bow on a campaign that yielded the program’s first Ohio Valley Conference title since 1977, its first-ever FCS Playoff appearance and resulting trip to the quarterfinals, as well as the program’s first consensus All-American since 2002 and myriad Coach of the Year accolades for the architect of the success, head coach Mark Hudspeth.

APSU FootballClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) football team showed up in a big way, holding UT Martin’s offense to minus-25 rushing yards as they claimed a 38-24 win in the season’s penultimate home game in one of the biggest contests in program history – Homecoming and a battle to stay atop the Ohio Valley Conference.

One of two remaining unbeatens in the Ohio Valley Conference—and if UT Martin falls later Saturday, the Govs could have sole possession of the league lead. It’s happened… but not often.

Instant Peay Play: APSU Football’s defense continues to stifle opponents run game

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) football team continues to be one of the best run-stopping defenses in the nation, as this past weekend in Macon, GA, the Governors held the Mercer Bears rushing attack to less than 50 yards from scrimmage.

In giving up just 43 net yards from scrimmage on the ground to Mercer, it marks the third straight week the Govs run defense has allowed their opponents less than 60 total rushing yards net in a contest, with APSU giving up 53 yards to North Carolina Central in the season opener on August 29th and 32 yards to Central Arkansas on September 7th.
