APSU Football head coach Mark Hudspeth announces first staff hires

APSU FootballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) head football coach Mark Hudspeth has announced the first additions to his inaugural staff.

Marquase Lovings joins the Governors as the associate head coach and defensive line coach, Eddy Morrissey will serve as the offensive line coach and run game coordinator, Chad Bumphis will be wide receivers coach, Mark Powell will coach the safeties, Jordan Frazier will be the director of football operations and Spencer Grubbs joins the staff as the director of recruiting.

The Govs dispatched Sewanee with ease in exhibition play, but squaring off against a veteran Commodore squad will make for a solid early-season test for Matt Figger‘s first road outing as Governors head coach.

Austin Peay State University senior physics major Joshua Allen briefly understood that feeling when he began his summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program at Princeton University, but any fears he may have internalized quickly vanished when he began work at the Ivy League institution’s Princeton Center for Complex Materials (PCCM).

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – After making a history-making run through the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament last week, Austin Peay State University’s men’s basketball team will have to face a history making challenge once again in the NCAA Tournament.

The Governors (18-17) were the first eighth-seed to win the OVC Tournament championship, winning four games in four days, but now a bigger undertaking awaits them as a 16-seed and having to go up against the NCAA Tournament’s overall number-one seed Kansas (30-4).

The Governors enter Sunday’s game hoping to build a little momentum as is prepares for a six-game home stretch.

Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball ready for season opener Friday

 

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – The Tennessee Lady Vols held a media session and open practice period Wednesday in advance of Friday’s season opener vs. Penn.

No. 4/4 UT and the Quakers will meet at Thompson-Boling Arena in a contest slated to tip at 7:00pm ET and be streamed live by SEC Network+.

The contest will be the first between the two programs and only Tennessee’s second vs. a school from the Ivy League. The Lady Vols, who were ranked No. 1 at the time, toppled Princeton, 107-39, on December 20th, 2005, in their only other meeting with an Ivy program.

Vanderbilt Commodores play the Tennessee Vols at home Wednesday night in “White Out” game

 

Vanderbilt CommodoresNashville, TN – The Vanderbilt Commodores play host to their in-state rivals, the Tennessee Vols on Wednesday night at Memorial Gymnasium in Nashville. The game promises to be a typical match-up between the two teams as Vanderbilt fans are encouraged to wear white to support “White Out.”

The first 1,000 fans to enter the gates will receive a free t-shirt. Gates open at 5:30pm.

Tip-off is at 7:00pm and the game is being televised regionally on the SEC Network. The game is also being broadcast on the Vanderbilt IMG College Radio Network, and the University of Tennessee “Vol” Network.
