APSU Softball season ends with 3-0 loss to Toledo at National Invitational Softball Championship

APSU SoftballRichmond, KY – Austin Peay State University’s softball team saw its best season in program history come to an end, Friday at Gertrude Hood Field, with a 3-0 loss to Toledo in the regional round of the National Invitational Softball Championship.

The Governors (39-19) and Rockets (35-22) traded scoreless innings through the first four frames, but a leadoff triple to open the fifth inning, followed by a sacrifice fly to center field gave Toledo a 1-0 lead.

APSU Softball faces Towson to begin National Invitational Softball Championship

APSU SoftballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will be making a familiar trip to Richmond, KY, but for an historic reason, as the Governors face Towson University, 2:00pm (CT) Thursday at Gertrude Hood Field in the opening round of the National Invitational Softball Championship.

The game marks the first appearance in a national post-season tournament for the APSU softball program in its 33-year history.

APSU Baseball postpones today’s game against Toledo to Sunday

APSU BaseballClarksville, TN – Due to forecast inclement weather, Austin Peay State University’s baseball team has postponed Saturday’s final game of its series against Toledo.

The Governors and Rockets now will play that game at 1:00pm, Sunday, February 25th at Raymond C. Hand Park.

APSU BaseballClarksville, TN – Center fielder Nick Walker hit a pair of home runs but it wasn’t enough as Austin Peay State University’s baseball team dropped a 16-7 home-opening decision to Southern Illinois, Tuesday night at Raymond C. Hand Park.

On a blustery day, Austin Peay (3-1) posted its first three home runs of the season.

NASA launches Three Sounding Rockets to study Alaska Auroras

NASA - National Aeronautics and Space AdministrationWallops Island, VA – Three NASA rockets carrying instruments into active auroras over Alaska to aid scientists studying the northern lights and the interactions of the solar wind with Earth’s upper atmosphere and ionosphere were launched within a nearly two-hour period March 2nd, 2017.

The instruments were successfully carried on Black IX sounding rockets from the Poker Flat Research Range north of Fairbanks. The first two rockets were launched nearly simultaneously at 12:41am and 12:42:30am EST as part of the Neutral Jets in Auroral Arcs mission.

NASA finishes testing Cryogenic Propellant Tank to be used for future Space Exploration

 

NASA - National Aeronautics and Space AdministrationWashington, D.C. – NASA recently completed a major space technology development milestone by successfully testing a pressurized, large cryogenic propellant tank made of composite materials. The composite tank will enable the next generation of rockets and spacecraft needed for space exploration.

Cryogenic propellants are gasses chilled to subfreezing temperatures and condensed to form highly combustible liquids, providing high-energy propulsion solutions critical to future, long-term human exploration missions beyond low-Earth orbit.
