Sounds Lose Extra-Inning Affair To Cubs In Series Finale, 5-4

 

Nashville SoundsDes Moines, IA – Cubs outfielder Brad Snyder hit a game-winning, bases-loaded single off the left field wall with two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning to give the division-rival Iowa Cubs a 5-4 win over the Nashville Sounds in the finale of a four-game series on Thursday night at Principal Park.

Pinch hitter Chris Robinson opened the 11th frame with a single off Mike McClendon and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and infield groundout. McClendon walked the next two hitters before allowing the game-winning hit to Snyder.

The defeat gave the Sounds (70-70) a series split and 11-5 season series win over the Cubs.

I-Cubs’ 7th Inning Rally Gives Sounds 8-5 Loss

 

Nashville SoundsDes Moines, IA – The Nashville Sounds opened their season-ending road trip with an 8-5 loss, as the division-rival Iowa Cubs scored five runs in the seventh inning to come back and win on Monday evening at Principal Park.

It was the 22nd loss on the road after leading this season, as Nashville (68-69) entered the bottom of the seventh inning with a 5-3 lead.

Right fielder Caleb Gindl had three hits while right fielder Brandon Boggs and catcher Martin Maldonado each hit two-run home runs in the loss.

Boggs gave the Sounds a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. After Gindl hit a two-out infield single, Boggs crushed a two-run homer over the left field wall, his ninth of the season.

Nashville Wins 8-3 Over Cubs In Finale

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds handed the division-rival Iowa Cubs an 8-3 defeat in the finale of a four-game set on Monday evening on Greer Stadium. Nashville (50-53) took three of four from Iowa in the series, which also has won seven of the last eight games against the division-rivals.

Nashville exploded for three, two-run homers on the evening in the victory, as Taylor Green (2-for-3), Mat Gamel (1-for-4), and Brandon Boggs (1-3) all went yard. Edwin Maysonet also added two hits.

In his fifth quality start for the victory, Butler (6-5) gave up two runs on three hits while fanning four in six innings of work. In his last six starts, Butler has recorded 2.38 ERA (9er/34.0ip) while striking out 31 batters and holding opponents to a .211 average (26-for-123) over that stretch.

De La Cruz Pitches Sounds To Sixth Straight Win

 

Nashville Extends Longest Winning Streak Of The Season In Front Of Packed House

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Right-hander Frankie De La Cruz turned in an outstanding start and Caleb Gindl belted a two-run homer to lead the Nashville Sounds to a 4-1 victory over the Iowa Cubs in front of 8,744 fans on Saturday night at Greer Stadium.

De La Cruz (4-6), who finished one out short of Nashville’s first nine-inning complete game of the year, struck out a Sounds season-high 10 batters in the contest. He allowed just one unearned run on five hits while walking only one batter during his 109-pitch effort.

With the victory, Nashville (49-52) extended its longest winning streak of the year to six games; all of those triumphs have come against the division-rival Cubs as the teams are in the midst of eight consecutive games against one another.

Sounds Notch Fifth Straight Win In Series Opener

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds continued their recent hot play on Friday evening at Greer Stadium, defeating the division-rival Iowa Cubs by a 5-2 margin in the opener of a four-game series.

The win was the fifth in a row for Nashville (48-52), all against the I-Cubs.

Center fielder Logan Schafer enjoyed a solid Triple-A debut for the Sounds, going 2-for-3 with a double, RBI, run scored, and stolen base. In addition, he made an outstanding running catch of a Ryan Flaherty fly ball at the wall in right-center in the fifth.

Sounds Score Two In Tenth To Win Series Opener In Iowa

 

Nashville SoundsDes Moines, IA – The Nashville Sounds plated a pair of runs without the benefit of a hit in the top of the tenth inning to hang a 5-3 defeat on the division-rival Iowa Cubs on Monday evening at Principal Park in the opener of a four-game series.

In the decisive tenth, Taylor Green and Mat Gamel drew back-to-back one-out walks from Iowa reliever Chris Carpenter before the pitcher-catcher exchange failed the I-Cubs. With an 0-2 count on Sounds catcher Mike Rivera, the next two offerings went to the screen to allow Nashville to take the lead.
