Over 250 compete in annual APSU Governors Golf Classic

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU Clarksville, TN – The annual APSU Governors Golf Classic had more than 250 area golfers flocked to Clarksville Country Club, Swan Lake Golf Course and the Links at Novadell on Friday.

For the second year in a row, three courses were needed for the four-man scramble that raises scholarship money for Austin Peay student-athletes. Afterward, participants were treated to a dinner, silent auction and music from local artist Mike Robinson at the Country Club.

At the Country Club—packed to capacity with 36 teams—the foursome of Jeff Truitt, Groovy Truitt, Jim Durrett and Mark Blaze scored a two-shot victory (47) over Michael Rye’s foursome (49). The Hal Matthews-Dennis Kolb-Doyle Robertson-Tyler Guy quartet (50) finished third.

Austin Peay State University Governors and Chamber Community Golf Classic set for Friday

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Governors and Chamber Community Golf Classic and Partner Celebration Dinner is Friday and pairings have been announced for the one-day, three-course tournament.

The event, which has seen APSU Athletics and the Clarksville Chamber of Commerce combined their two tournaments, will be played Friday at the Clarksville Country Club, Swan Lake Golf Course and The Links at Novadell in Hopkinsville, KY.

The shotgun start for the four-player, best-ball scramble is 10:30am at the three courses.

Clarksville National Blue 9-10 All-Stars defeat St. Bethlehem for District 9 Title

 

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville National Blue 9- and 10-year old All-Star team wrapped up its undefeated run through the District 9 Little League tournament, July 3rd, as they defeated the St. Bethlehem All-Stars, 7-4.

Finishing the tournament 4-0, Clarksville National Blue never trailed in the championship game getting out to a 6-0 lead after two inning – including a five-run outburst in the second inning.

“We got a great pitching performance from Logan Blackman to start the game and scored enough runs to hang on,” said Scott Samuels, who along with Patrick Miller and Brad Greathouse coached the Clarksville National Blue. “We’ve got a good defense and our pitching has been solid the whole tournament and tonight was another example where we got a good start and our relievers came in and held them in check.”

The Affordable Health Care Act poses questions for consumers

 

Clarksville, TN – The hotly debated Affordable Health Care Act, or “Obamacare” went into law on October 1st, 2013, and besides the political debate that has dominated the headlines, consumers are left wondering, “what is it” and “what am I supposed to do?”

Clarksville Online paid a visit to BFS Insurance of Clarksville, and asked Scott Samuels to help us understand how the program works, and what consumers need to know.

What’s the number one thing people need to know about “Obamacare?”

“Well, everybody needs to understand that it’s a Federal Mandate, and if people don’t get health insurance, then there’s a penalty they have to pay on their tax return the following year.  People will need to decide if they will just pay the penalty, or get the insurance.”

Clarksville National 7-8 year old Blue team wins State Tournament

 

Little League BaseballTullahoma, TN – The Clarksville National Blue team won the 2012 State Junior (7-8) Baseball Tournament held in Tullahoma, Tennessee the week of July 15th-19th. The team went 5-0 in winning the district 9 tournament one week prior.

In the state tournament, the Big Blue won their first 2 games against Maryville and Hartsville. In the third game, the team fell to Carter County in a tight 4-3 game. They re-grouped and defeated the home team from Tullahoma 13-5 to advance to the championship round against Carter County.

Having to beat Carter County twice to claim the title, the bats stayed hot and Clarksville rolled 11-3 in the first game and 10-4 in the championship game.

Team of Tuck-Boyd-Cunningham-Campbell run away with Friday’s flight of 25th Annual Governors Golf Classic

 

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The team of Joey Tuck, Chase Boyd, Heath Cunningham and Bret Campbell ran away with Friday’s afternoon flight of the 25th Annual Governors Golf Classic, played at Swan Lake Golf Course.

The winning quartet shot a scramble score of 48 to ease  past the second-place team of Kyle Luther-Ben Moore- Jarrod Duncan -Robbie Wedemeyer (51), followed by the team of Brandon Rippy-Brad Daniel-Scott Combs-Joe Henry (52) . «Read the rest of this article»
