Fort Campbell Warrior Transition Battalion Soldiers highlighted on Great American Country Memorial Day weekend

 

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – Great American Country host Nan Kelley speaks with Sgt. 1st Class Matthew Loheide May 20th during an adaptive tennis session at Fort Campbell about his injuries and commitment to helping other Soldiers as they heal at the Fort Campbell Warrior Transition Battalion.

Loheide, who earned a Silver Star Medal for his heroic actions on the battlefield, currently serves as the non-commissioned officer in charge of the WTB Adaptive Reconditioning Program.

General Petraeus awards Silver Stars to Task Force No Slack Soldiers

 

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionBastogneKunar Province, Afghanistan – As the sun shone brightly, U.S. Army Gen. David H. Petraeus awarded two Silver Star Medals to Task Force No Slack Soldiers at Forward Operating Base Joyce in eastern Afghanistan’s Kunar Province April 11th.

The Silver Star recipients, U.S. Army Capt. Edward B. Bankston, commander of Headquarters and Headquarters Company from Decatur, GA., and U.S. Army Sgt. Joshua L. Bostic, a squad leader from Spring City, Tennessee, assigned to Company C, both from 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, said the weather during Operation Strong Eagle III in Marawara District was anything but sunny.

Foster recieves Silver Star

 

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – A former Fort Campbell Soldier and member of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, received one of the Army’s most prestigious awards during a pre-game ceremony at Angel Stadium in Anaheim CA, April 9th.

Daniel Foster, formerly a specialist in the 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, was presented the Silver Star medal for heroism during a May 21st engagement against terrorist forces while deployed to Afghanistan in support Operation Enduring Freedom.

Task Force Bastogne Soldier exemplifies courage, luck

BastogneFort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionKunar Province, Afghanistan – It sounded like a worst-case scenario, April 2nd, when the call crackled over the radio during Operation Strong Eagle III, an operation to disrupt insurgent activities in the province: “We’ve got a Soldier shot in the face, and it looks like the bullet passed through and lodged in his chest.”

The wounded Soldier, U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Daniel Hayes of Grand Rapids, MI, not only survived, he walked to the medical evacuation helicopter that took him from the battlefield in the Marwara District to the 102nd Forward Surgical Team at Forward Operating Base Wright. After surgery at FOB Wright, Hayes walked to the second MEDEVAC chopper that transported him to Bagram Airfield for follow-up treatment.

101ST Soldier to receive Silver Star Medal for Valor during Anaheim Angles Baseball Game

 

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – On Saturday, April 9th, 2011,  the United States Army will be presenting the Silver Star Medal to U.S. Army Specialist Daniel A. Foster at Angels Stadium in Anaheim, CA, preceding the start of Angels – Blue Jays baseball game. 

While assigned to 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division.  Foster distinguished himself in combat in Afghanistan through exceptionally valorous actions on May 21st, 2010, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, displaying heroism and courage beyond the call of duty.

Brothers decorated for combat in Afghanistan

Regional Command East - Combined Joint Task Force - 101Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan – Two brothers in the 101st Airborne Division were decorated for two separate combat actions during their deployment to Afghanistan.

One received a Silver Star Medal in December for actions during a five-day fire fight in Kunar Province. The other received a Purple Heart in January after a fire fight at Forward Operating Base Andar.

U.S. Army Cpl. Joshua Busch, 3rd platoon, Company D, 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, was on a mission in November when his platoon was attacked by insurgents.

George Casey presented a Task Force Leader Rakkasan Soldier with a Silver Star Medal for combat heroism at a brief ceremony at Forward Operating Base Salerno December 23rd.

“I feel honored to receive this medal,” said U.S. Army Spc. Nicholas Robinson, M240B machine gunner with Company D, 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division. “It’s a great opportunity for me to be able to represent my battalion and the division, as well.”
