Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – If Austin Peay needs any reminder on how much UT Martin has improved this season, the Govs only need to turn back the clock to early January.

The Governors found themselves down nine halftime points and were forced to rally for a 71-61 victory, preventing the Skyhawks from their season’s first Ohio Valley Conference victory.

APSU Men’s Basketball

Austin Peay State University GovernorsMartin, TN – Josh Terry scored 25 second-half points to lift Austin Peay State University from a nine-point halftime deficit to defeat UT Martin, 71-61, in Ohio Valley Conference action, Monday night in Skyhawk Arena.

The victory was Austin Peay’s sixth straight, improving the Governors to 12-6 overall and 6-0 in the OVC. UT Martin falls to 4-13 overall, 0-6 in the OVC.

For much of the first half and in the second half’s early stages it appeared the Governors were going to suffer their first league defeat while the Skyhawks were going to claim that elusive first victory. UT Martin closed the opening half on an 11-2 run to take a 34-25 halftime advantage. The Governors shot just 9 of 24 (37.5 percent) from the field in the opening half.

Governors next road test at UT Martin

APSU Men’s Basketball

Austin Peay State University GovernorsMartin, TN – On the surface Austin Peay’s bid to open the 2010-11 Ohio Valley Conference at 6-0 would seem to be a mismatch when the Governors face UT Martin, 6:00pm, Monday.

The Governors come in amidst a five-game winning streak and already have won three league road games after ending Murray State’s 25-game home winning streak, 66-64, Saturday.

Meanwhile, UT Martin enters the contest amidst a five-game losing streak and is winless in the OVC at 0-5.
