Tennessee Vols Basketball beats Florida, 63-58

 

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – A game-high 22 points on 10-of-15 shooting from John Fulkerson led the way as Tennessee defeated Florida for the fourth consecutive time. The win also marks the Vols’ 50th regular-season SEC victory under fifth-year head coach Rick Barnes.

Vols freshman Josiah-Jordan James stuffed the stat sheet, recording 12 points, eight rebounds and six assists in 40 minutes. 

The Vols began the contest red hot from the floor, connecting on eight of 14 field goals and forcing the Gators into six turnovers by the 8:00 media timeout.

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – No. 25/RV Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team (17-6, 7-3 SEC) and RV/RV LSU (17-5, 7-3 SEC) will meet for the second time this season, as they face off Thursday at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge, LA, at 6:32pm CT (7:32pm ET).

This will mark the 67th meeting in a series that began in 1977, with Tennessee leading 51-15 after the Lady Vols defeated the Tigers, 63-58, in Knoxville earlier this season on January 26th.

UT and LSU enter the game tied for third in the Southeastern Conference standings at 7-3, and the winner will take sole possession of the three spot.

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – No. 23/25 Tennessee Lady Vols basketball will play its second straight top-10 opponent, as No. 8/8 Mississippi State comes to Knoxville for a 5:32pm CT encounter on Thursday at Thompson-Boling Arena.

This will mark the 44th meeting in a series that began in 1986, with Tennessee leading 37-6. The Lady Vols will try to snap a three-game losing streak to the Bulldogs as well as a three-game home court skid to MSU.

Thursday’s match-up will offer a tussle between the SEC’s second-place team, Mississippi State, and the Lady Vols, who stand alone in third place a game ahead of Arkansas, Kentucky, LSU and Texas A&M.

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – No. 22/22 Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team (16-4, 6-1 SEC) hits the road for the first of three away games in its next four outings, playing Vanderbilt (12-8, 2-5 SEC) at Memorial Gymnasium in Nashville on Thursday at 8:05pm CT (9:05pm ET).

This will mark the 83rd contest in a rivalry that began in 1976. UT leads the series, 72-10, and has won 10 of the past 11, with Vandy picking up its first-ever victory in Knoxville last season. The UT women are 247-61-1 all-time vs. four-year college teams from the Volunteer State, defeating East Tennessee State (72-68) and Tennessee State (73-43) earlier this season.

The Lady Vols are currently tied for second place in the league standings with Mississippi State at 5-2. South Carolina is in the catbird’s seat with a 6-0 league mark.

LSU, meanwhile, is tied for third along with Kentucky and Texas A&M at 4-2.

Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball second half turnovers costly in 60-45 loss to UConn

 

UT Lady VolsHartford, CT – No. 23/25 Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team took a 31-28 lead into halftime but couldn’t hang on, falling to No. 3/5 UConn in front of a crowd of 13,659 at the XL Center on Thursday night, 60-45.
 
The game was the first time the two teams had met since January 6th, 2007, when Candace Parker led UT to a 70-64 victory in Hartford in a No. 4 vs. No. 5 match-up. The game was the first of a two-year Basketball Hall of Fame Revival Series, from which a portion of the proceeds benefit the Pat Summitt Foundation, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.

Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball holds off Alabama for 65-63 home win

 

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN Rennia Davis’ deep, step-back three-pointer with 0.8 seconds remaining lifted No. 23/25 Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team past Alabama, 65-63, on Monday night at Thompson-Boling Arena.

The junior forward’s heroics helped the Lady Vols end a five-game losing streak to the Crimson Tide and provide Kellie Harper her 300th career victory as a head coach.

Freshman Jordan Horston led Tennessee (15-3, 5-1 SEC) in scoring with 19 points and eight rebounds. Davis also had another strong showing, connecting on seven of 11 shots from the field, including her only three-point attempt, to finish with 16 points and nine rebounds.

This will mark the 57th meeting between these programs, with the Lady Vols leading the all-time series by a 49-7 advantage. The series has been a streaky one. UA brings a five-game winning spree into Knoxville.

That string came after Tennessee had won an otherworldly 42 straight from March 23rd, 1984, through January 31st, 2016.

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – The Tennessee Lady Vols (19-12, 7-9 SEC) are the No. 11 seed in the Albany Region and will meet No. 6 seed UCLA (20-12, 12-6 Pac-12) at College Park, MD, on Saturday in the first round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament.

Tip-off is slated for approximately 12:00pm CT at the XFINITY Center on the University of Maryland campus. The game will be televised by ESPN2 and carried by the Lady Vol Radio Network.

In the other first round game in College Park, No. 3 seed Maryland (28-4) will meet No. 14 seed Radford (26-6) at 10:00am CT on Saturday. The winner of those games will advance to the second round and play in College Park on Monday. Tip time and TV info. are to be determined.
