Kartsonis Lifts APSU Men’s Tennis to 4-3 win over Chattanooga

APSU Men's Tennis - Austin Peay State UniversityChattanooga, TN – With the match knotted at three, Alex Kartsonis rallied after dropping the first set to take his No. 5 singles match 5-7, 6-2, 7-5, and give the Austin Peay State University men’s tennis team its first win in 2017, a 4-3 win over Chattanooga Saturday night.

UTC won the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead.

APSU Men's Tennis - Austin Peay State UniversityMurfreesboro, TN – The Austin Peay State men’s tennis opened its fall season with a pair of wins over Chattanooga and Middle Tennessee while falling to Alabama-Birmingham at the 2016 Dale Short Shootout presented by Jason’s Deli.

APSU opened the weekend with a 7-0 loss to UAB, but rebounded to close out the weekend’s matches with wins over UTC and host MTSU.

APSU awarded over $140,000 from THEC to Improve Campus Climate for Increased Degree Attainment

 

APSU - Tennessee Higher Education CommissionNashville, TN – The Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) has awarded $800,000 to six colleges and universities (APSU receives $144,407.50) to increase student outcomes at the institutions.

The $800,000 in funding through the Institutional Outcome Improvement Fund Grant will assist institutions in growing student outcomes in areas such as credit hour progression and degree completion.

APSU Soccer - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer head coach Kelley Guth announced the team’s 2016 fall schedule, Wednesday, which features nine home matches at APSU Morgan Brothers Soccer Field.

Following an exhibition contest at Georgia State (August 14th), the Govs officially open the regular season at UAB (August 19th) and Alabama State (August 21st).

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN –  Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team fell to Chattanooga, 6-1, Saturday, at the Governors Tennis Center.

For the second consecutive match, the Govs (1-2) allowed the opposition to gain the first point, with the Mocs (1-4) earning the nod in doubles.

Instant Peay Play: APSU Governors hope it has turned back the clock with Will Healy hire

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – On December 23rd Austin Peay State University officially announced the hire of 30-year-old Will Healy as the 19th head football coach in school history, but it’s not the first time the school has gone with a very young head coach for the program.

In 1979 Austin Peay hired its then 10th head coach, a 29-year-old Watson Brown to replace James ‘Boots’ Donnelly, in hopes to continue a streak of winning seasons – which included the only Ohio Valley Conference title in the program’s history in 1977.

UT Lady Govs Basketball host Chattanooga Mocs Monday

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – The #4/5 Lady Vols (3-0) play their first of three games this week, as #24/RV Chattanooga (3-1) visits Thompson-Boling Arena on Monday. Tipoff is slated for 7:00pm, and the game will be broadcast online on SECN+.

The Mocs enter on the heels of a 67-63 upset victory over #4/5 UT a year ago in Chattanooga. While there was that excitement for UTC, the Mocs also saw their season end at Thompson-Boling Arena last year, falling to Pittsburgh in the NCAA First Round, 51-40.
