APSU Expo makes “wellness” a priority
One of the biggest obstacles Americans face today in maintaining a healthy lifestyle is not knowing where to begin. If a family is new to our community, they may not be familiar with what businesses are here in Clarksville and what services or products they may offer for an individual or family to maintain healthy living for their entire family. Also, if an individual is looking to begin a diet or workout program, they might not be aware of avenues that may or may not be available to them as well. In this rapidly growing city, many people may not know of the services that can offer recreation or nutrition assistance for their family. However, on February 19, the 2009 Austin Peay University Recreation Wellness Expo will not only showcase these local companies, but will make the Expo absolutely free for anyone in the Clarksville community who is interested in finding out more ways to maintain or, in some cases, change their personal wellness. «Read the rest of this article» H.O.P.E. to sponsor Women’s Health FairKnowledge is power, and empowerment is the goal of the first Women’s Health and Wellness Expo. Free medical screenings. Free dental check-ups. Free eye/vision screenings. Nutrition and fitness information. Classes on marriage, self-esteem, and self-image. It’s all included in a single program being offered to the women of our community during a unique and absolutely free conference coming up on May 31. This Women’s Health and Wellness fair is a Community Enhancement event sponsored by the Hispanic Organization for Progress and Education [H.O.P.E.]. It will be held on May 31 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Riverview Inn in downtown Clarksville. The event is free and offered as a community service. Dr. Joy Twillie, a graduate of John Hopkins University will be the guest speaker on issues including Marriage and Self-esteem.
