Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn to showcase book at the Women in Business event

Congressman Marsha Blackburn’s book “Life Equity” invites women everywhere “not to quietly crack open the door of opportunity, but to kick it down, take it on and make it happen.” Blackburn is sharing her motivating message at the Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce Women in Business event on April 6.

Blackburn maintains that leadership is a transferable commodity, and that using the life equity women have already built up can bring about the kind of real change that people desire. She encourages women to use what is “uniquely you,” and bring their mighty leadership skills to the table. “The ordinary, everyday tasks you have been performing are actually the foundation for getting you where you want to go,” says Blackburn. “In even the most unglamorous roles, women have built real leadership ability that has prepared them for bigger things.” The book includes tools that Blackburn says will help women assess their “life equity” and fashion the life of their dreams.

Originally from Laurel, Mississippi, Blackburn was elected to the Tennessee State Senate in 1998, and in 2002 was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District. She became the first woman in the state to win a Congressional seat in her own right. She has been actively involved in Tennessee grassroots politics and civic organizations for more than 25 years.

The Chamber’s Women in Business event will be held at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, April 6 at the Hilton Garden Inn, 290 Alfred Thun Road. Cost is $20. To register, contact Melinda Shepard at (931) 245-4341 or Melinda@clarksville.tn.us. The Chamber’s mission is to enhance the quality of living for Clarksville residents by promoting business and economic development, improving the community’s welfare, and representing the interests of its members.
