Junior Vanja Tomic overcame an opening-set loss to Monta Reinfelde, at No. 1 singles, for her second-straight three-set win. Tomic lost the middle set at Xavier, but was able to come out with the win. Last season, the OVC Player of the Year played only two three-set matches.

“Vanja played a tough match,” Tabet said. “(Reinfelde) is a good player and they played some good tennis. They were both hitting the ball hard and it came down to Vanja having to really play consistent to win it.”

Aside from No. 1 singles, the other four matches were seemingly uneventful as the Lady Govs rolled through the Hilltoppers. Freshman Andra Cornea gave up four games to Alex Crofford at No. 3 singles, but no other Lady Govs player lost more two games. Sophomore Carolin Weikard and freshman Rachel Margolies each won their matches without losing a game.
