Man Leaves Note and Thumb Drive at 5 Locations

No Cause for Alarm

Clarksville Police DepartmentClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Police Department wants to make the community aware that over the last week, a man out of Eddyville, KY has left an envelope with a letter inside and thumb drive at five different locations on church properties around Clarksville.

The photocopied letter referenced the man was going to be murdered and the recipients should read the information on the thumb drive.  It was signed Randy. The thumb drive contained 250 pages of rambling which covered a spectrum of topics from being a victim of false allegations to religious references.

There were no threats of violence to any individual or organization found on the document. An investigation was opened and it has been discovered that Randy, is really Randy Durgin, 8/2/69 with a last known address in Eddyville, KY. This is not the first time nor is Clarksville the only location that Durgin left notes in this manner. The investigator, Detective Finley, found there were similar occurrences in Maine and Kentucky over the last 10 years. Durgin was linked to those occurrences.

There has been no criminal history linked to Durgin and we have found nothing to indicate that he is dangerous or a threat to our community.  Law enforcement in Kentucky were familiar with Durgin and went to his residence and spoke to a family member. They also felt there was no threat posed by Durgin.

The investigation is ongoing and Detective Finley is the lead investigator. Please report any further incidents to the Clarksville Police Department’s TIPSLINE 931-645-8477.
