Austin Peay State University TRiO Tri-County Upward Bound receives $1.25 million Federal Grant over 5-year period

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University TRiO Tri-County Upward Bound (TCUB) has been awarded $1.25 million in federal grant funding over five years that will enable the program to provide academic enrichment and college enrollment services to low-income and potential first-generation high school students residing in Cheatham, Houston and Stewart counties.

Contingent upon annual appropriation by Congress, TCUB will be funded $250,000 for the 2012-13 academic year. The award comes from the U.S. Department of Education.

Program participants attend a residential six-week summer session on the APSU campus. During the academic year, program personnel travel to the target high schools in the three-counties to provide academic, career and financial aid counseling. Additionally, participants travel to APSU for monthly Saturday Sessions for instruction, tutoring and cultural events.

In recent years, 80 to 90 percent of the program participants have enrolled in postsecondary education immediately following high school graduation.

TCUB has been in place at APSU since 1999. All services provided by TCUB are entirely free to participants.
