Clarksville, TN – Defending TSSAA Sectional finalist Rossview High School’s volleyball team picked up where it left off last year, as they opened up their 2013, and District 10-AAA, schedule August 20th with a 3-0 sweep over Northwest High School, by scores of 25-6, 25-6 and 25-10.
Four different Lady Hawks recorded at least five kills versus the Lady Vikings, led by the 2012 District 10-AAA Player of the Year Janie White’s 10.
“Today was a really good start for us and the girls stayed focused throughout the match,” Rossview coach Jen Garinger said. “We got to work through a lot of our plays that we are going to run through this season.
“We really got to use our quick sets, which is something we’ll need – not only on offense – but to work against on defense, because once we get past district play we’ll see that a lot.”
Along with leading the Lady Hawks in kills, White also added five blocks and two aces, while Regan Comperry added six kills and Kamryn Carter and Mica Koontz five kills each.
Comperry would also led the Lady Hawks in assists (18) and aces (10).
“Kamryn is a great addition as a freshman (to the team),” Garinger said. “Regan and Mica did great jobs out there, but the team as a whole played well.”
The Lady Hawks got out to huge leads in each of the first two games of the match, first scoring the first 14 points in Game 1, followed by scoring the first 12 points in the second game.
“When you have a 6-foot-2 excellent attacker like they do that hits the ball 50- to 60-miles per hour it really makes it tough on our girls,” Northwest coach Matthew Spinella said. “Still, at times we were about to keep a rally going and had chances to score points.
“If we hadn’t played Rossview and play like we did out there we would have a chance to pull out a ‘W’ (win) against some other teams in the district.”
The Lady Vikings got two kills from Natalie Schilling, and one kill each from Shaina Toler-Camien, Roni Schilling and Ashtyn Hilton.
Northwest did keep the third game much close, trailing only 13-9 at one point, but the Lady Hawks closed out the match by scoring 12 of the final 13 points to seal away the victory.
Rossview returns to action August 21st, as they host a tough 2012 Region 6-AA finalist in Harpeth High, in a non-district matchup at 4:30pm, while Northwest stays in District 10-AAA play by hosting West Creek at Willard Ross Gymnasium on August 22nd at 4:30pm.
