Montgomery Central Indians get last minute touchdown to beat Clarksville Academy Cougars 14-13 in Battle of the Cumberland
Clarksville, TN – Montgomery Central High School scored a touchdown on a long pass play in the final 76 seconds, Thursday night, August 21st at Phillip Horsey Stadium, to post a come-from-behind 14-13 victory over Clarksville Academy, in their annual Battle of the Cumberland matchup.
Dequimothy Northington caught the game-tying 33-yard pass from Indians quarterback Peyton Delvendahl, with 1:16 left in the game, followed by the go-ahead extra-point by Austin Neely to give Montgomery Central (1-0) its’ first lead since taking a 7-0 to open the game.

Clarksville, TN – The Montgomery Central High school Indians (0-2) proved to be the inferior tribe, losing their home opener to the Harpeth High Indians (1-1) 13-34.
Big plays by the MCHS Indians in the first half turned into turnovers, penalties and broken tackles in the second half. Harpeth took advantage of every mistake, scoring 21 unanswered points in the second half.
“We played really well in the first half,” head coach Jeff Tomlinson said. “We played lethargic in the second half. I guess we got a little tired. A lot of the problem, second half-wise, we started having injuries.”
Clarksville,TN – Controlling play from the beginning whistle, Clarksville Academy’s girls soccer team even their seasons record to 1-1 overall, as they shutout Kenwood High School Lady Knights, 4-0, August 21st at Winn Field.
The Lady Cougars scored two goals in each half, while out shooting the Lady Knights (0-1) 29-5 overall and 18-3 in shots-on-goal.
“It was nice to out here after a loss (August 18th to Northeast High School) and control play and the possession,” Clarksville Academy coach Mary Beth Burchett said. “Plus we were able to get four goals by four different people. That’s always nice to see as a coach.”
Clarksville, TN – Defending TSSAA Sectional finalist Rossview High School’s volleyball team picked up where it left off last year, as they opened up their 2013, and District 10-AAA, schedule August 20th with a 3-0 sweep over Northwest High School, by scores of 25-6, 25-6 and 25-10.
Four different Lady Hawks recorded at least five kills versus the Lady Vikings, led by the 2012 District 10-AAA Player of the Year Janie White’s 10.
Cunningham, TN – They weren’t smooth or pretty wins, but they were gritty wins none the less, as the Montgomery Central High School’s baseball team came out of the loser’s bracket May 9th to defeat Harpeth High School twice – 15-7 and 7-4 – to win the District 11-AA tournament title.
“We hit well in the first game and that’s been our strength all season,” Montgomery Central coach Todd Dunn said. “The second game was kind of like how our season has been all year.

Clarksville, TN – Individuals looking to finish their college careers by enrolling at Austin Peay State University’s Highland Crest campus in Robertson County will now have a friendly face to help guide them through the process – new extended campus coordinator Kristen Brewer.
Brewer is now working at the Springfield campus, which houses both APSU and Volunteer State Community College programs, to help students interested in completing a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice, a Bachelor of Professional Studies, a Master of Arts in Teaching or a Master of Arts in Education with a reading specialist licensure.
