“Operation Safe Ride” is a free service open to anyone who is too impaired to drive home. People who live within the Clarksville city limits can call for a ride between the hours of 11:00pm and 4:00am for a ride home.
“CTS began this program more than twenty-five years ago and we average about 150 riders a year. Over the years, we have helped hundreds of people get home safely,” said Jimmy Smith, Director of the Clarksville Transit System. “We’re happy to be able to offer the program again this year.”
Anyone who cannot, or should not, drive home on New Year’s Eve can call 931.553.2429 to request a ride. Information is also being posted in restaurants, bars and other stores around town with the phone number. CTS emphasizes that this is not a shuttle service. People will be picked up at their location and driven directly home.
“I encourage everyone who needs a safe ride home on New Year’s Eve to take advantage of this service. Whether you are at a public or private party in Clarksville, we want to make sure you get home safely. Taking this number with you is the easiest way to make sure you have a safe and happy New Year celebration,” said Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan. “I want to thank CTS for making this service available again this year and I truly appreciate the CTS employees who are giving up their own celebrations to provide this service.”
On New Year’s Eve, the number to call for a safe ride is 931.553.2429.
