Clarksville’s Burt-Cobb Community Center will remain open as Emergency Shelter until Noon Thursday

City of Clarksville - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan is announcing that the Burt-Cobb Community Center in Clarksville will continue to provide emergency shelter through noon Thursday, February, 19th, 2015.

“Yesterday, based on predictions about the weather, we announced that we would evaluate the shelter need on Tuesday,” said Mayor McMillan. “It’s one thing to plan based on predictions and another to respond to a known situation.”

“We are concerned about the freezing temperatures and we are also concerned that the volunteers who help with our community partners may not be able to travel,” stated Mayor McMillan. “With all of the issues the weather is causing, I have advised our team that we will keep the Burt-Cobb Community Center shelter open at least until noon on Thursday. We will evaluate the continuing need then.”

“We continue to be in constant contact with our partners for updates,” Mayor McMillan continued. “We are keeping a daily count on the number of available beds and the demands for shelter so that we can respond accordingly.”

Volunteers from Manna Café and staff from the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department continue to staff the Burt-Cobb shelter. It is located at 1011 Franklin Street, Clarksville, TN 37040.
