Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan announces City Departments Budget Presentative Schedule

City of Clarksville - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan is announcing the budget presentation schedule for the City’s various Departments.

Unlike most county governments, including Montgomery County, Clarksville’s City Charter does not provide for budget planning and preparation through a committee.

Instead, the Charter is clear that the Mayor has the responsibility to work with the various City Departments and agencies and prepare a proposed budget and present it to the City Council for review, possible amendments and adoption.

“Since my first year as Mayor, I have made every effort to make the budget process as open and transparent as possible,” Mayor McMillan said. “I believe it is imperative for citizens to be able to hear from the Department Heads about the funding they are requesting.”

“For this reason, each Department Head presents his or her budget request to me in open meetings. That information is used as I prepare a proposed budget,” stated Mayor McMillan. “Once that proposal is given to the City Council members, we hold working sessions intended to offer them the opportunity to ask questions about the proposal.”

“The Department Heads are available to answer any questions the Council has about their Department’s specific requests. My goal is to make sure that the citizens and the City Council have every opportunity to hear, see and understand the budget I have presented to them,” Mayor McMillan said.

All of the Departmental presentations will be held in the City Council Chambers, located at 106 Public Square in Clarksville. Members of the public are invited and encouraged to attend. The presentations will also be accessible via live streaming on the City’s website, www.cityofclarksville.com

Videos of the presentations, including the Department’s Power Point presentations, will also be available for replay on the City’s website and will be aired on CDE Lightband Channel 3.
