Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – The annual Meet the Govs fan experience was recently held at Austin Peay State University’s Fortera Stadium. Hundreds of supporters came out to watch the APSU Governor’s football team scrimmage, after which, the players and their fans all moved into the Dunn Center for a meet and greet session.

Samantha Salkovitz is APSU’s Director of Marketing and Fan Experience. She took a few minutes, as fans began to fill the Dunn Center, to talk about Saturday’s event.

“This is my first year, and I’m excited for today,” Salkovitz said. “The university has done meet and greets before, but always at the stadium, and only with our football team. This year, we wanted to open it up to include our soccer and volleyball teams. We also chose to move the event inside in order to avoid the heat.”

APSU’s soccer and volleyball teams set up tables along one side of the Dunn Center. The football team set up on the opposite side. All teams’ fall schedules were printed on posters that were being handed out to supporters.

It wasn’t long before fans were lined up all around the Dunn Center to meet and greet the players and coaches, and have their posters autographed by the 2018/2019 APSU athletes.

“We had a few hundred people come out to watch the football team’s scrimmage,” Salkovitz said. “And, it looks like we will have several hundred come by for the meet and greet as well.

“I think all our teams will carry their recent successes into their 2018/2019 seasons. Our football and volleyball programs are coming off great years, and our soccer program now has a new head coach. So this is promising to be an exciting year for us.”

This year’s event was sponsored by ECHO Power Engineering, LLC. Additional sponsors were Coca-Cola and Dairy Queen.
