Austin Peay State University Men’s Cross Country finds success at John Flamer Invitational

APSU Men's Cross CountryEdwardsville, IL – Austin Peay State University (APSU) men’s cross country continued its 2019 season Friday evening as the Governors traveled to SIU Edwardsville for the John Flamer Invitational.

The Governors placed 5th in the 8-kilometer outing with junior Thomas Porter leading the way; he finished 15th with the time of 26:53.8.

Nash Young came out with another impressive run and another top-25 finish clocked at 27:46.6 (24th).

A Governor that stood out for this meet was Daniel Davis. Davis finished 29th in the individuals and third on the team with the time of 28:02.2.

“He looked really strong from start to finish,” said Austin Peay head coach Valerie Brown.

“I thought he put himself in position early. You could tell he was competitive and focused. He had a game plan and he stuck with it. I am excited to watch next week in our home meet to see how he responds from the type of race he had to day,” Brown stated.

Hezron Kiptoo finished fourth for the team while placing 34th with the time of 28:26.4. Freshman Ryan Martin came in with another strong performance after he crossed the finish line 28:41.7 (39th).  Joseph Redman was next for the Govs after clocking a 29:24.3 (45th)

Two freshmen Elliot Reed, William Norris, and Andrew Abel finish off the remainder of the day for the Govs. Reed was the first out of the trio to cross the finish line with the time of 29:54.8 (48th). Two spots later, Norris clocked out at 30:26.3 (50th). Abel cross the finish line for the Govs with a time of 32:50.6 (55th). 

 “We put our guys through some tough training this week and to see our guys compete at the way that they did just shows the direction we are headed,” said Brown.
